Hi all,
I've wanted to get into paintballing for some time now, but untill now never had enough motivation. I've tried it once, and thought now is the time to get some of my own gear.

I need a decent gun to get started with, but one that won't empty my wallet.

Been checking out Proto 08 slg and it looks ok but as I'm a total newb I wouldn't really know if it wasn't, so any comments or advices are welcome :p

thanks

from what ive seen the 08 slg isnt very reliable, if i were you i would see about the 09 slg or go on the sales section on here and find an ego 5,6 they seem to just never break hope this helps

I own the 08slg and it's a fine gun, not amazing, just fine. It works.
That being said, I can honestly say that buying a decent gun from the word go is by far a better option, you'll be wanting to upgrade the 08slg as soon as you get it, which seems silly when you can get a better gun for the price of the upgrades.

If you're on a really tight budget, look at an 09slg or a dangerous power g3, they'll be worth it, but ideally look at something that will take you a bit further such PMRs.

You can get some great deals in the for sale thread on this site.

Getting most, if not all of your stuff second hand is probably your best option if you have a tight budget as you can get some great bargains! Alternatively if you have a decent budget, you might as well buy new especially your marker, like has already been suggested.

I have so far bought mask, marker and hopper second hand and saved around £150, which will give me more money for paint and the rest of my kit....when I actually get round to playing!

Can get a dm8 for the cost of a new G3 ;)

IMO a DM8 or a PM8 are dirt cheap for what you get, they may be at the top end of your budget, but you wont regret shooting these, they shoot true. Eteks, Ego05 and Ego06's are also very good for value for money.

If your in doubt feel free to pm me about guns which you want to buy, and I will give you my honest opinion as well as ideas for what might need upgrading but most importantly why they should be upgraded. :)

Had a 08 slg for 6 months/10 games use and the electrics failed. Very poor marker - steer clear.

Thanks everyone for all the tips. They really helped a lot.

I've been lurking around for the past few days and managed to buy an ego 5 and a halo hopper so now all I need is a bottle.

From what I read I should get a 1.1l fibre one. Is it ok to buy a second hand? Do I need to get it tested? How often you need to run such test?
