NSPL 2009 – 10th Anniversary Season
The 2009 NSPL season will consist of six tournament events plus the incorporation of the UK’s Millennium Series International Event, the Campaign Cup.
We are proud to announce that the NSPL will be working alongside the UK Masters and all the major industry players in 2009 as part of a new initiative to ensure the revival and growth of tournament paintball in the UK. As the country’s most established and professional leagues, the NSPL and UK Masters are recognised by this initiative and will receive the full backing of the entire industry throughout the 2009 season.
Full details of the new initiative to unite and revive tournament paintball in the UK have been published on p8ntballer by Pete Robinson. We can tell you that the NSPL is heavily involved with this initiative and supports it 100%.
Teams will be ranked on their performance at a total of five events. They may play as many or as few events as they please, but their top five scores (including their score from Campaign Cup if applicable) will be used to decide the final end-of-season rankings.
2009 Provisional Fixtures
Round 1 – March – UCZ Paintball Park, Devon
Round 2 – April – NSPL Reading
Round 3 – May – Campaign Cup or NSPL Reading
Round 4 – June – NSPL Reading
Round 5 – July – NSPL Reading
Round 6 – September – NSPL Reading or Campaign Cup
Round 7 – October – UCZ Paintball Park, Devon
Participation in two (dates to be announced) NSPL Reading events will also earn teams Seeding Points towards the UK’s National Championships organised in partnership by the NSPL and the UK Masters. Details about the National Championships will be realeased as soon as they are available.
The National Championships will mean that participating in the NSPL and Masters will finally mean something more than in previous seasons. With the industry behind the Championships event, you can be sure that the winners will earn maximum bragging rights, nation-wide recognition and we're sure there will be a very healthy prize package up for grabs.
There are no plans for a Heaven’s Gate event in 2009 at this time. Instead, we will be putting on more of a “show” at all of our 10th Anniversary Year events, with additional features, facilities and attractions. Taking in to consideration the current financial climate and the uncertainty of team numbers at this stage, we will not make any promises at this point, but we will be ensuring maximum bang for your buck and promise our customers that all of our events will be the very best they can be.
As well as our usual tournaments, the NSPL will be putting on a few other special events throughout 2009 in celebration of its 10th Anniversary year. We will be going back to grass roots, looking to attract old teams from the past to attend a re-union event based in the South West. We will be hosting an end-of-season awards ceremony and players party. Finally, we will be supporting the Proto KotH and several different mini events at our HQ in Devon, UCZ Paintball Park.
Confirmed fixtures and dates will be released in early January 2009.
Divisions
The division structure for the NSPL in 2009 will be as follows:
Division 1 – M7 Format (Reading Events Only)
Division 2 – M5 Format, Ramping (Quick Turn-Around Sessions)
Division 3 – M5 Format, Ramping
Division 4 – M5 Format, Ramping
Proto KotH Novice – M5 Format, Semi-Only, Limited Paint
Proto KotH Rookie – M5 Format, Semi-Only, Limited Paint
If the demand for M7 format is high enough, we may consider changing Division Two to this format depending on logistics, but we would have to hear from several committed teams who want this to happen in order to even consider it. Division One is now unlocked and was undersubscribed in 2008, so we see no demand for more M7 divisions at this time.
Prizes
The NSPL will be reducing its prize package to Division One teams in order to run the M7 format effectively and sustain the high level of facilities required to do the format justice. We are not announcing any prize package at this time. We firmly believe that our delivery of this format is exemplary, have further improvements planned for 2009, and participation at the price on offer is reward enough for Division One teams.
Prizes for other divisions will be similar to 2008 and be awarded at the end of each event…
1st Place – Trophy and 3 Cases of Paintballs plus Kit Prizes
2nd Place – Trophy and 2 Cases of Paintballs
3rd Place - Trophy and 1 Case of Paintballs
That is approximately 250,000 Paintballs and various Kit Prizes up for grabs throughout the 2009 season.
Registration, Team Profiles and Web Casts
The NSPL team list will be tidied up in early 2009. All teams will be required to register on-line or update their existing registration. New features will be added to team profiles, including a library of sponsor logos to use, team histories (scores and awards) and the ability to make friends and enemies lists and post messages on your profile or other team’s profiles.
Live web casts will return in 2009. These will include live scores, written commentary, photos and live chat with guest hosts and paintball “celebrities”.
Player registration on team profiles will be mandatory and will include UKPSF registration with Player Insurance at a predicted cost of £12.50 per player. NSPL/UKPSF cards will be collected at NSPL events. Current and valid registration cards from the UK Masters will be accepted, but players must still register on a team’s NSPL profile.
Prices
We have freezed our prices from 2008 – there will be no price increases. Entry for Division One (or any M7 division) is set at £280 per event. Entry for all other divisions is £200 per event.
Rewarding Your Loyalty
This season, we will be rewarding loyal teams. By entering five NSPL events, we will give you entry to the sixth event for free. This loyalty deal does not include the Campaign Cup.
Fields
The NSPL will ONLY be using Millennium Fields for 2009. We reserve the right to alter field dimensions, but will use official Millennium layouts from the 2009 season for all fields, all divisions.
Our current Millennium Field will be used. Our NSPL field will receive an upgrade kit and “M” bunker. A third Millennium Field will be purchased mid-season.
Sponsors
The NSPL will be adding additional incentives and benefits for sponsors in 2009. We expect to see an increased amount of vendors at our Reading events and other benefits for the teams as a result of improved sponsor relations.
Camping
New for 2009. Camping will now be available as standard at all NSPL events. This service is offered free of charge on the understanding that team’s taking advantage of it CLEAN UP after themselves. By CLEAN UP, we mean remove ALL rubbish and leave your camping area as you found it. Failure to act responsibly in this matter will result in the service being withdrawn.
Facilities available will include toilets, but not washing facilities or running water – bring your own. BBQs will be allowed as long as they do not damage the grass and all BBQs and rubbish are taken away with you.
Campers will be expected to keep noise to a minimum in the camping area after 10pm, though partying is encouraged in designated areas away from the camping area!
Batteries and Rubbish
Paintball tournaments produce a huge amount of rubbish. There’s no getting away from it and in this day and age, we need to start taking some responsibility for the trash we generate at paintball events.
At all NSPL events in 2009, we will provide facilities for disposing of Batteries, Cans, and Glass. These will be taken for recycling after each event. Players will be required to do their bit and make sure that ALL Batteries, Cans and Glass are disposed of in the correct manner at NSPL events.
Rubbish Bags will be provided for all other rubbish and we ask that all paint boxes are left empty when discarded to enable easy disposal. We are investigating methods of recycling paint boxes at the moment, but it is proving difficult as the price on recycled cardboard has plummeted recently.
Do your bit or your team will face suspension and possible expulsion from the league! It is time for us all to be responsible for the rubbish we generate at events.
Summary
The NSPL will continue to deliver quality events throughout 2009, continuing to make our annual re-investments and improvements, and are planning some added extras to help us all celebrate ten years of the league’s history.
We are not planning anything monumental or making any wild claims and promises. That’s not what is needed in the current climate. We are focussing on delivering competitive, enjoyable and quality tournament events. We are co-operating with the UK Masters, the Millennium, the UKPSF, and the rest of the UK’s industry to ensure a healthy future for our sport in this country.
With the plans detailed above, we have a recipe for success with a realistic and considerate approach to delivering a season of great tournament paintball that helps the tourney scene rather than hinders it.
Now we ask you, the player, to consider where you fit in to all of this and support the people who are supporting you.
If you have any questions or want further information, please call Chris on 01626 833 200.
From everyone at the NSPL, have a great Xmas and here's to a productive and enjoyable 2009!
