Im not too sure, i like to think hamilton has some sort of skill. Regardless of what car he is in. He has had some dodgy calls put against him and still come out on top. I would also like to see him in another car. Would make it interesting to see his true skill. Joe calzaghe is a legend. I think he deserves it. Ricky Hatton has bounced back in style and his weight has fluxuated (sp?) in the last year so it shows he is testing himself which i admire. Chris hoy and/or the olympic team for obvious reasons.

Im not sure but unfortunately i think it is going to hamilton.

I don't think any F1 driver should win anything individually; as Buddha3 suggests, it's a team endeavour and as such should be eligible for that category alone.

Come to think of it, a driver can win the title of best constructor's driver, and so each constructor will have a two horse race where each driver finishes up first or second within that constructor's catgeory...then it actually might mean something

most f1 teams have over 500 people working within the team to get just two cars onto a starting grid:eek:and how ever good you think hamilton is if he was not driving either a mclaren or a ferrari he would win sh*te all fact. f1 is all about money you only have to look whats happened to honda, remember a few years back everybody was raving about button then what happened got his ass in a crap car,all f1 drivers have talent you have to have skill to drive those things ,it,s luck and good personal sponsers that get you the right drive ,not how good a driver you are these days not like the old days, and before certain people come on saying what do i know about f1,my family have lived round the circus that is f1 for the last 30yrs my father spends more time away from home with this crap than being in his own home and everybody at the tracks all say the samething he,ll never be a senna the greatest driver ever barr non

I think a few of the posters here have a slightly skewed perception of what it takes to be an F1 champion. I have met a fair few of the modern and former racing greats through my current and previous employment and believe me they are extremely focused individuals. I'm sure Chris Hoy isn't arrogant enough to put his success all down to his own efforts though, I'm sure he credits the GB Cycling team with the majority of it, I'm sure Calzaghe would credit the team behind him with the success he has enjoyed too.

Schumacher, it has been said, would have excelled in any top level sport he had chosen to participate in, an incredibly focused individual, he could pedal any car you put him in to the best of its abilities.

I have met Hamilton only once, a fair few years ago, at the Autosport Awards, I think he was about to pick up the most promising newcomer award and was the youngest ever recipient. That was the night he told Ron Dennis he would like to drive for him some day, the rest, as they say, has been history. Lewis has shown, on the way up to F1 through the various formulae, that he can win in a car that is equal or close to the rest of the field and you don't get to drive in a top flight team unless you are a talented driver.

Extending the same arguments as put forward here how could any Soccer player deserve to win this award, surely the credit should go to the team, the same for Rugby, not to take anything away from those that have.
