the sheer cost of setting up and playing doesnt help

a lot of parents wont pay a massive cost to get thier kids the gear, pay green fees and paint. Then theres actually the logistics of getting there

aswell as that most tournies are on a sunday which coincide with nearly all sports who have matches/games that same day

I think the issue isnt attracting new people to play the sport but its keeping trying to keep those who do as this seems to be the biggest demise in UK paintball.
i think that this is a good point as the more people that get involved in paintball the more likely you are going to get the untrustworthy sort of people and personally i think that paintballers at the moment are good guys and gals, i mean in what other sport can you leave a grand worth of equipment in a tent and watch the game without going back and finding that you only have a hundred pounds left.
BUT
The problem comes when people start leaving the sport like Bluey you wont have any of those good guys left to spur new blood on and get them interested in the sport, and help them get started as he did with me and many others.

perhaps some one should design a poster (wookie being the computer and design genius that you are ) explaining the sport and what it truley is with a list of team contacts, then if every one posts at least one up being at work, school or on the streets this must attract some sort of buz

this is truley a catch twenty two cituation

it would help if it was on the tv in the uk
its now non-existant apart from the internet / at the site
On this point.

Paintball has been on the TV several times over the years in various guises. It made no discernable difference.

It can honestly be said that it would be of no help if it was on the television.

Paintball is a niche hobby. It is not accessible to a huge majority of the working class population who would be needed to take it to the next level. There is a massive start up cost and massive continuing costs associated with paintball.

Most people especially in the present climate cannot justify spending a couple of hundred quid every few weeks just to play paintball. In reality thats what it costs. Most people couldn't justify that in any climate.

Tournament paintball is not the way to grow paintball. It just isn't. Support your site owners. Help them out. They are the future of this hobby.

The problem with tourny paintball is that Cheating is accepted.

I know many players who join a team and play for a year or two untill the cheating gets worse the higher division you play up to the point if your not cheating as much as the other teams you cannot compete.

The problem is these teams think it's ok to stiff the teams they are playng against and then they get delusions of granduer thinking they are much better than they are because they wipe their way through tournies and do well.

This in turn pisses off the teams they play and these teams lose players as they cannot abide paying £100 for a tourny just to be dicked by the wipers.

The event then starts to fall apart as teams look elsewhere to play and the cheaters move onto another league and it starts again.

I have seen too many people get into the sport, move into tournies then leave after 6 months because they have had enough.

Just my 2p

Must agree from experience;I was told everybody does it or it's ok,that was in the early 90's and '06 (I think)....
I've had a go@tourney's and I was crap,I couldn't get used to the idea of playing on,didn't like the politics but I did enjoy having a go,and I still enjoy paintball everytime I play, but then even rec' ball days can be ruined by obvious wipers.

however i disagree with this to a extent. i admit that paintball will never be as big as sports such as football rugby ect. but having it advertised to be on setanta, sky sports and other sporting chanels of that nature cannot possibly not do a difference.

Who would watch it. Paintball is a very small scene and we would be the only people who would want to watch it, it doesnt have the appeal of sports like football. Football is easy to watch, 1 ball that the camera follows, paintball is far to complex to film and understand for the lamen

Matty you can disagree all you like but it doesn't make you look very smart. Its been on tele. Its made no difference. Its been shown on eurosport, bravo and channel 4 in tournament style, woodlands style and theme style and it hasn't taken off. What does that tell you?
