For want of a better description, I used 'New World Order' as the phrase to describe the next and necessary step in our evolution.
I am referring to the first step in establishing significant links between continents and countries thus creating a single federation with one rule book, one format and one standard of operation for everybody.
The forlorn attempts we have all witnessed in trying to get Paintball on TV are just glaring examples of precocious acts of blind optimism.
We just weren't ready for it, nowhere near mature enough and certainly not adequately organised.
Basically, we got what we deserved....our ass kicked unceremoniously into the mainstream media dead-box.
In a couple of weeks, there is gonna be a meeting in Las Vegas that will pave the way (hopefully) for the foundations of this New World Order that will bring together the two powerhouses of world paintball, the US and Europe.
Barry Fuggle and Laurent from the Millennium are gonna go play paintball poker with Dave Youngblood and some others from the PSP to see what sort of framework can be developed with a view to .... hmmmmm, I was gonna use the word 'partnership' but I don't think that's appropriate, let's say alliance
There are many political, and some strategic reasons, why it's appropriate for the Millennium guys to seek some form of union with the US.
If you understand the dynamics of what's been happening in Europe over the past year or so (and also the power struggle in the US between PSP and NPPL) then it doesn't take much to work out why 'union' is high on everybody's agenda; especially when you factor in the somewhat complicating factor of the independently ran Centurio series and the NPPL.
The Centurio could have been seen as performing two potential roles here, either it could be a friend or an enemy, and that status was entirely dependent upon circumstance and timing.
I don't think the Millennium guys can wait much longer for the Centurio to de-cloak and are taking the appropriate and timely action.
On a more parochial note, the meeting between some of UK's 'influentials' who are trying to restructure UK ball will wait until after the meeting between the Millennium and the PSP because to try and sort anything out beforehand is meaningless.
Any changes or initiatives taken to put our UK house in order, have to be the result of a 'trickle down' effect from the wider decisions taken in Vegas.
There is absolutely no point in trying to put our house in order with a 'bottom up' philosophy that is so often adopted in drastic restructuring, we need to know what the plans are on a much wider scale before we all sit down to work things out.
And so, I think we are all going in the right direction and this direction can only help us Brits in terms of our imminent overhaul because it provides infrastructures and goals before we even sit down to talk.
I also think that come the start of the 09 season, all of us should know where we are heading in terms of national and local events, formats and rules and operational standards.
This can only be a good thing !
