Thinking about getting back into balling

Well, as the title suggests I'm looking at getting back into balling. I played a few relatively low level tourneys 4-5 years ago and ended up giving up the game. I've got no kit and no bloody idea what's going on in the sport now, but I'd like to get involved more now that I'm more financially solvent and am older and wiser. Also, I've just got a car which I'm learning to drive so getting from Manchester to lord knows where at an unholy on a Sunday morning won't be quite so hard :p So I've got a few questions:

- Is there a decent play/practice area in or near Manchester? I'm living in Old Trafford and the closer by the better! I'd prefer sup air really and if there were relatively regular walkons that would also be a plus.

- Guns/markers/gats/whatever the hell they're being called nowadays. Just after I got out of the sport I think there were rules coming in about legalising certain fire modes and putting a bps cap on at something like 17bps? I'm assuming the 300fps rule is also still in place?

- Gear. I'm student so I'm not what you'd call rich. Having had a look around prices, certainly on guns, has gone down. It's looking like I'll be at about £500 for a full setup, from gun to air tank to squeegee and mask. What kind of marker would be best for that kind of money nowadays?

That's about it really, unless there have been any other fundamental changes in the game?

Welcome back, I'v only started 7 months ago so 17bps is a huge number to me! :p
Rules for most format fields are 12bps, ramping on the third trigger pull, sustained rate of 6 (so you got to pull the trigger at least at 6bps for it to keep ramping at 12bps) or semi at 12bps @ 280 or 300fps (diff fields have diff rules).

As a student you want something cheap and cheerful! loads of deals on this forum to grab up on, could get a ego06 for around £200, or even etek 2's for around that price! there fantastic guns, cheap and highly reliable, if you got some more money get a DM8 for around £300, these guns are brutal for the price, you can't find any faults for that price for that quality.
Masks for around £30 cheap second hand, packs for around £20s/h, tanks for around £75 i believe, and hoppers around £40.

I have a full kit up for grabs if your intrested;
Racing Green Shocker NXT with blackheart board(allows for more firing modes) and leaver feedneck including spares,
Empire Reloader Hopper, Hanger 18 Battle pack, pots, 1.1L air tank with bottle cover white/black I3 Pros or Green/black I3's, Playing trousers, Playing jerseys. Send me a pm if your intrested ;)

Thanks for the info man :) I suppose at least with a limit of 12bps there's not the tech race that was going on with silly ROF. I used to have a timmy that was pretty bouncy and it hit 22bps regularly! It'll help the old paint bill as well :p

I'm not going to be buying kit for a little while due to xmas etc. but I've been looking at the DM8's - there seem to be loads of them around pretty cheaply. Basically I just need something that's reliable, doesn't chop paint and is relatively air efficient. I'll have a look at the egos and eteks too.

Wicked :) I used to live in knutsford so that's shockingly local. Is it far from the train station?

As I said with the kit - I'm not going to be buying for a little while and £400 is out of my price range. I'd rather spend less on the marker and more on a decent hopper, barrel, air system and mask etc.

Hey man,

it about a 10 minute drive from the Airport train station, but a couple of us are only down the road in stretford...

get yourself down one weekend, or to one of our monthly newbie tournaments to help you get back into the swing of things :) we have plenty of markers down there for you to try out and lots of advice :)
