I can't believe this is true.

I understand the vendor-paint-only thing. You have to buy paint every event, so might as well make teams buy sponsor paint.

But equipment is a different beast. Requiring teams to spend hundreds of dollars on sponsor guns will cost you more in lost participation.

I do think, however, that prohibiting vendors from selling product from manufacturers that don't support the league is a decent policy. It's not fair to let some people 'sell around' sponsoring the league by just having a store move their product.

Why so much hate fot the millennium series in the UK ?? Whoever i speak to its all about how "the millennium is trying to **** us over" and "They are only trying to get our money and have no care for the player." You could also look at this another way, what do the sponsors get out of being "sponsors" to the millennium. As was said above unless its a paint sponsor they dont really get anything. Maybe The sponsors pressurised the millennium into doing this by threatening to withdraw as sponsors because its not worth it to them.

/end rant.

but honestly, why no faith in the MS ?

I know this was 'on 'offer' shall we say to the existing portfolio of Millennium sponsors but as one of those sponsors said to me (not verbatim but close enough) 'Pete, it's just nuts they would do this and maybe short term it would benefit my company but it just hurts the players and paintball in general'.

Now, they haven't yet made it official and so there's room for them to backtrack and come out smelling of roses but as we have seen before, they seem to possess an infinite capacity of snatching lunacy out of the jaws of commonsense.

Let's see which way this one goes...

I am gonna make a prediction here, and as all of you know, I don't like being wrong (it's a rare event I know)and so, you can read whatever you want in to that but some people better not make the mistake of ignoring it ....

If the Millennium guys do not change the way they do things in terms of customer care, both player and vendor, there will be another tournament series in Europe come 2010 that is specifically set up to rival the Millennium ....

Everybody in this industry knows me, I ain't gonna indulge in BS or lie in these pages, I ain't saying anything is happening for definite, I ain't scare-mongering, I am just making a prediction, an informed, speculative one.

The Millennium guys just about avoided a similar situation brewing some time ago and they got away with it by the skin of their teeth but it seems they haven't learned a damn thing since ....

They can ignore this post if they choose, they can ignore the protestations from teams and vendors, but what they can't ignore is the fertile ground they are creating for somebody else to come in, and in one fell swoop usurp all that was theirs ..... and if you think about who could arrange such an aggressive move? .... well, I can think of a few.

Any sport /business is all about control, if you have control then you also control the money flow, and so .... nobody likes sharing power unless they have to ..... if I was sitting in the middle of the NPPL / PSP and the Centurio......and I had been slowly and assuredly pissing off all of my customer base ..... I'd be picking up a book called the 'The Prince' and speed-reading its pages trying to work out where the first attack was gonna come from ...... the pieces are all in place guys.... the usual suspects lined up ...it really doesn't take much to work out what any self-respecting businessman would do next.

The sponsors wouldn't be insane enough to pressure this move, the architects for this are the Millennium not the sponsors.

The prince is an amazing book, Machiavelli was a very intelligent man, that bit about the soldier who works his way up to eventually ruling an empire is an incredible story, I'm currently half way through it, recommended to me by a friend.
Sun tzu's the art of war is also a great read if you're into that kind of stuff.

This is similar as to how the CXBL in Canada is run. You an only wear the jersey that they provide you which has all of the league sponsors on it. If you add a team sponsor they fine you and make you pay $250 Canadian for a new jersey.

Not a good step at all....

You advertise for companies but actually get nothing out of advertisement, so where does that leave you for your sponsors who actually give your team something? Why would they give you something when you do the same for other companies for free?

Not sure how they are going to restrict which markers are to be used on fields. This is only going to push the players who are struggling out of playing if they cannot afford the markers/gear which the league endorses.

This also is a good way to control the market place with setting marker prices so high that you have to pay that to play.
