You make mention of snooker and darts but these are completely different 'sports' but they lend themselves to being televised, paintball does not, there is NO focus for spectators and we will never be able to get past this problem unless we drastically change the game itself.
Quite an interesting thread...

Robbo did you have some thoughts about how you would drastically change the game so that it would be more suitable for T.V?

As for my view on the whole topic, I'd be more interesting in knowing what format Eurosport intends on using to show the events, until I could make fair judgement. I have just been watching last season’s Xtreme Paintball: beyond the paint, I am less than impressed with their format of the show. As a baller I am only really interested in watching the games (for moves, tactics etc) and don't really care to much about the day in the life of player x or seeing the same paintball gear advert about 100 times. I couldn't see this programme appealing to non ballers at all. I am guessing this show is probably geared up for U.S. T.V. networks which tend to have sooo many adverts.

IF Eurosport were to showcase 'some' of the Mill games, in an extreme sports type of show (e.g. a show that also has mountain biking, base jumping, surfing etc etc) it 'might' be a more attractive package for non ballers to watch and 'might' be a more attractive proposition than just showcasing Paintball. I would also like to see a show promote places where you can learn about and play paintball, rather than soley advertising paintball gear all the time which mostly aimed at existing players. Just my thoughts.

Hmmmmm......lemme think for a minute here.........ok, the most constructive comment I can make on this subject may seem a little cynical but it is nevertheless appropriate, 'save your time and effort in trying to make paintball work on TV, it ain't gonna happen' ......that's it I'm afraid :(

The only way we can get our sport on TV is to swap out the paintballs for real ammo, and then just watch the ratings fly ..... you think I'm joking?
It's a terrible indictment of today's society that even a sick joke like that could actually attract more viewers ...a lot more.

But as for paintball?
People would rather watch bowls, log cutting, burger eating, David Letterman, synchronised swimming .... go figure

If anything is going to get paintball on tv it's via videogames. I myself don't even like to watch paintball on the TV, so why would a non-playing one? Hopefully Activision can make something really nice of this.

Part of the problem is that the game sucks. We'd solve a lot of the issues with televising paintball if we made everybody shoot Pump. Movement televises well. Shooting does not.

The other problem is the combination of TALENT and BUDGET. We have not yet managed to combine good talent with a good budget.

The first NXL show had a huge budget and no talent.
The NPPL ESPN show had a huge budget and no talent.
The NPPL Fox show had a big budget and no talent.
The WPL show had a big budget and negative talent.
The NCPA shows have had good talent, but no budget.
Patrick's Cup coverage had good talent, but no budget.
I think you're a little biased, except for the last line. Firstly, you don't know what half the 'budget's you mention actually were, and secondly, your 'talent' scale is completely subjective. Therefore, you are in danger of telling people your opinion and stating it as a confirmed fact....

....again:)

It's an affliction that Chris has found impossible to cure .....and so, we all have to live with it.
But only after you've banned him 10-20 times huh? ;)

I'm dissapointed. I think Chris took my title of most bans from PGI then being allowed back on. :D

I think we've all mellowed a little with age. I'm still too bloody young to play in the Veterans division though.

Looking forward to getting back to England on Thursday. :D I'm going to have to attend a Millennium event next year to see the fuss, and old friends.

Actually Si, I think I only banned him once or twice but they did last for quite a while but we get on now, and I prefer it that way to be honest.
Mind you, I think you are right regarding mellowing and I now only ban people who are lying thieves, or fat friends of lying thieves who can't see the truth all the time freebies keep coming thru the letterbox.

I'll let you work out what that lot means :)

Anyway Si, it will be good to se ya when you come over, how's things Stateside?
Are you rich yet?
