Why is takaway pizza so expensive?

Decided to try the Domino's online ordering site and went for a small ham / mushroom create your own.

The pizza turned up within half an hour but for £9 I was shocked at the size of it.

£9 = 3 extra value Mcdonalds meals, 2 and a bit KFC's or two jumbo donna's

How do they get away with it?

Where I lurk, Dominos do bogof on large pizzas.
Plain cheese and tom is £9.99 and toppings are £1.19 per item.

I knew I was ordering a 9" but when it arrived it was insultingly small.

Last time I went to the land of oz we were getting 15" pizzas loaded with what you want for $6. (about £2.30)

Even with our economy as it is I find it shocking.

Maybe they lump on extra for the .7 mile journey?

there is a pizza place near me that does a 9" pizza with 3 toppings, 2 pieces of chicken, chips and a drink for £3.99

fuel costs, paying the delivery man, etc

surely thats a simple enough answer. no doubt it would be cheaper if you'd have picked it up.

The local non-chain pizza places are often a lot cheaper mate

Its a pity really really, I used to live 20 seconds or so from the local kebab van now its miles to any grease trap.

i usually manage to eat a full pizza - whatever size.

But theres a takeaway near me - a 9inch pizza is enough to fill you up. There is about 1 cm thickness of cheese and its so filling - its stupidly cheap - cant remember how much and absolutely amazing.

They do 12 inch pizzas but you would be crazy trying to eat a whole one yourself.

The fact is you probably paid so much because they actually employ legal workers...
