8 times is quite a lot to get shot. I'm guessing you were either standing in the wrong places, or a lot of your customers were waving their markers over barricades and firing blindly. :D

Just remember that that the "punters" are your customers who pay your wages. Look after them, chat with them, and don't shout at them unnecessarily.

They have paid a fair amount of money to have a good day out and its your job to make sure they do. They will enjoy the day more and you will to.

average day at work on a punter site i get hit 20+ times.

if your not getting hit, your not in the middle, if your not in the middle, your not watching everythign thats happening, if your not doing that, then your not really helping your players or doing the job your there to do.

yes punters osmetimes hunt you down, but thats a part of the banter!

anybody thats been to a punter site to play will note that there are 2 types of marshalls, those that are a bit of fun and encourage you to move arroudn the feild, and then there are those that "watch the dead" at the side of the field, whilst "supporting" a tree, just incase its going to fall over.
be which ever you want to be, i know that i prefer to be in the middle having a laugh with the customers and my other marshalls rather than " AIM AT ENEMY PULL TRIGGER DO NOT HAVE FUN THIS IS NOT A FUN CAMP".

oh and, crack out this line somewhere "This is my rifle, this is my gun, this is for fighting , this is for fun" - most people love it.

invest in some good arm pads and use them to shield your neck when you have to get stuck in theres nothing worse than taking a few rock hard site balls to the neck/ear

make examples of mask lifters - sit them out / send them home

have good crack with people but be assertive and prepare to loose your voice

Personally I find that if you get too close to the middle of the game, you can only ever watch what is happening in the direction your facing. What you need to do is keep the game in front of your eyes at all times unless something unfolds. That way you have an overview of the whole field.

However, don't, whatever you do, become a dead zone marshal. Honestly unless there are loads of marshals on a field, your couple of marshals will just get annoyed at doing all the work.

Congratz on the first day marshalling, you enjoyed it which always good to hear, and soon you'll be immune to any pain via a paintball.

Oh one final little tip, if you carry a spare gun with you whilst marshalling, place the rest the bottle on in front of your special parts, that way the only place ou really get hurt is the back of the head.

Always carry at least one spare marker!
+ if a punter pi$$es you off take a pop shot at them ;)
Most punters dont realise that the gun will still shoot without a hopper ;) stealth =]=]

yes i garuntee you will get shot at least 10 times :Das them punters think its a laugh popping the marshalls in the back
if you do the job right, you shouldn’t get shot. if you get shot, you are doing one of two things wrong.

1; you have offended someone so they take a pop shot at you...

or 2; you are standing in someone's line of fire... now... would you be annoyed if you had a clear shot at someone, then a marshal walked in front of you?

Some of my tips would be

*first thing to do is ask an experienced marshal to take you on the arenas and show you the hot spots and where most of the action usually is... from this, formulate somewhere decent to marshal from, where you can easily reach players calling for hits, help etc...

*communicate with the other marshals. I always see my Marshals showing of by sprinting the length of an arena through fire fights to check a player out... it may look good, but its not practical. if there's a closer marshal, then ask him or her to check.

*Other key things are to stay with your group at break times, build a bond with them and chat about the game they’ve just played etc…

*Make sure you carry a whistle, squeegee and bottle o-rings as spares.

*speak to your armourer and ask for knowledge of common faults on the markers you sites use, and how to fix them

*enjoy what you do.

the important thing i find when reffing is dont be shy with the customers have a good time and chat with everyone. a good rapport with the punters helps them enjoy themselves and when they enjoy it they buy more paint. doesnt help you much but keeps the boss happy and you keep your job longer.

jackman and umpa i think if thats how you marshal then it should be you that gets kicked off the site as it is not what people want or expect you are supposed to be looking after these people not taking pot shots at them ! you are paid a wage to look after these people how doe's the owner of the site feel about your childish attitude ? if you can't take the pain of a couple of shots then i think you should find a job you are more suited too such as flower arranging or knitting
