I used to play at sab walkons very regularly until (like arg) joined a team so tournies and practice mean i can't get down to sab as much as i would like.
It's great fun and a good group of guys, Paul will look after you well! :)
Possibly get some kit minus the marker (or leave off buying the kit for the moment) and then get down to a sab walkon ad ask nicely to have go with some of the guys markers. I know Paul inprticular has a PMR and theres a few guys with PM7's and the likes.

As for a marker, PERSONALLY i don't really like the ions / epiphany's etc. I would go for the proto range. PMR or a PM7 off of here is seriously a good deal! the pm7's are going for as cheap as £150 on here and thats cheap as chips ;) But yeah again, clssifieds is the way to go! (not from the states! if you're buying new support UK shops ;) www.lpspaitball.biz do some awsom get out and play kits specifially the mini one i think sounds like its in your budget. but if you dont like the look of some give them a call and they'll make one up for you with a nice discount ;))

mask, yeah go for a good mask not a cheap one. Paul's / Sab's are an upgrade from the rentals, and they do work well but you will find yourself upgrading after a little while.
I would recommend the JT line - Proflex's or flex's. Empire - Events. Dye - I3's. Vforce - Profilers or Grillz. Infact I have some Events for sale if you're interested;)

Also, bottles. Go for a fibrewrap (probably be wanting a 1.1) from the forums £60 - £90 they usually go for depending on test. or a new one for around £120 - £130ish

Thanks for the info, last time i spoke to paul hge did suggest i come down and chat with some of the guys on a walkon, it was only because since then i had a chance to play with a few guns that i decided the ion style was the best for me.

I was going to buy the Epiphiny from the states due to the price but then i have seen the eos for sale in the sales forum including an alright hopper in my price range im pretty set on that now, however ill still be going down to sab for the walkon to chat. infact i think there should be one this coming sunday.

it's one of paul's summer tournies this weekend, should be a good sized crowd down there. I had through about it myself but I have a team training session next sunday and I'm going to sab with some guys from work on the 2nd
