text speak and terrible spelling

I didnt read all of Skeets post, but in summary, I'd recommend you read 1984 by George Orwell. Newspeak has some frightening parallels already in todays society, not to mention a bunch of other stuff in that book.

I think it would be mint if newspeak became widely used. I often find myself a combination of 2 words because I change my mind half way through saying it.

Besides, I feel sure that they have developed "shorthand" in other languages to use on their phones, but are we really going to learn theirs?

English is the global language (25% of the world population speak it). More people speak english in China than in the commonwealth. It only makes sense in this age of hypercommunication (and with the homogenisation that accompanies it) that we'd adopt english text speak, since we'll probably phase out all other languages eventually anyway. These social issues are fascinating, who knows what will happen! Our society is an organic structure (if you're a fan of Durkheim anyway), and we will see what happens when certain pathologies arise and are adapted to. Or if you're a Marxist we'll just have a revolution and live in harmony forever

Unfortunately the text speak thing isn't limited to the UK... We get the same thing here, some form of incomprehensible collection of squiggles and random letters that's supposed to be Dutch...

Think "Little Jacob" in GTA4. Now, these guys are "cool". They sound cool.
Delinquents like to sound cool. We know there are loads of Chav's out there, who one might call "Wiggers", though I would prefer "Wegro's" as it seems more polite

They just like talking how they perceive Black people to.

Obviously, someone from the Caribbean etc when speaking English, is going to sound different, so I'm not having a go at them.

But do we have to look towards "Gangsta Rap", for teh reason that these retards want to speak, like they do?
Again, not having a go at "Gansta Rap" artists, many of them have stories to tell.

It really is sad, the youth of today. And we have to face teh fact, that it's a sizeable percentage of the population that we are talking about.
