Hi, really liking these forums, my first thread :)

Just really wondering if you guys can help me choose a good paintball gun. One which you can use in close combat, not really woodland - i think its called "sup air"

Basically I am looking for a decent gun around £90 $180 which has a good accuracy, preferably ACT which is what ive read.

I have read reviews etc of the Tippmann 98 custom platinum and was thinking of getting it until i saw http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylc=X3oDMTE1MmI4N2IyBF9TAzIxMTU1MDAxMTgEc2VjA2Fuc19ub3QEc2xrA3N1YmplY3Q-;_ylv=3?qid=20080426154332AAm5f3f
which said there are loads of better guns than the tippmann 98 for cheaper prices

can anyone shed some light on theses guns, the pros and cons of the guns and some good websites for them. I have found a decent seller on ebay.com for tippmanns for $140 http://myworld.ebay.com/famousguy/ and would thought it would be good getting 1 of them. (i would prefer a pack; so gun with 20oz co2 gas can rather than many 9oz's.)

I like paintballing for fun, i don't really want a top end gun or an electronic one (heard theyre bad + dnt really think they would be as fun). Im not too bothered about its bps it can manage or its range of fire (as long as its around 100).

I do like the look of the tippmann 98 custom and its features, do you people think you could help me choose a good marker with its features + pros and cons and maybe a good website that sells them (probably ebay as its cheaper)?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: also can someone please tell me why the tippmann a5 is significantly more expensive than the 98C plat as all i can see in specs difference is its higher bps ... can anyone tell me that if it is because of a higher bps is it really worth paying for ?

Well mate for sup air play you really should be looking at an electronic gun.
if you look in the for sale section you can pick up PM6's PMR's and 05/06 ego's relatively cheap. you could also pick up an invert mini for between £100 and £170 in the for sale section. (great gun! review it here) it all depends on what fits your budget though mate, and how flexible that budget is.remember on top of the gun price you will also need an electronic loader and air supply!

Hope this helps and if ive missed anything im sure others will fill in.

Ok, a few things.

All guns in sup-air are electro; I don't know why that person told you they were bad.

The Tippmann is excellent for the woods, you won't find a more reliable gun, but if you want to play sup-air, don't get one. Save up a bit more and get yourself a a low-end electro gun. Look for guns like the Angel Speed 05, Ion, or Ego 05 - these were top of the range a few years ago, and are still reliable, fast, and CHEAP. These guns will do you well for a long time. You could pick up an Angel Speed 05 for around £100-£125 - and i can tell you it is in a class of it own compared to a Tippmann.

Look in the classifieds section for examples. My little brother has a Speed 05 he'd sell - look it up on the web, find reviews, see what you think.

If you buy a tippmann or other cheap starter gun now, you will regret it in a few months. Trust me, I did exactly that when i first started.

And as magicmonkey says, if you save a bit more, you can buy brand new low end super guns extremely cheaply, like the Mini, Proto Matrix (PMR, PM6)

Remember that UK ebay does not allow the sale of markers

Make sure you don't spend all your money on gear before you run out of money for playing; tools aren't much good without materials.

im pretty new to all of this, could someone shed some light on a few things. Firstly, what are the advantages/disadvantages of an electronic marker and also why do u have to/need an electronic one to play sup air. is sup air just basically close combat because thats sort of what i would like to do. Also can you say why u regretted buying ur tippmann

Remember that UK ebay does not allow the sale of markers

no wonder i was struggling to find markers on ebay.co.uk - does anyone know why UK ebay does not allow this ? paintball guns are not illegal to own or anything are they so whats the difference ? :S Also i believe they are classified as a "toy" and therefore get through customs from an import so how come UK ebay does this ? im disappointed, i was looking to buy 1 from there ... ill take a look at the shop.justpaintball.co.uk link now

Thanks

In all fairness, i was playing woodsball just yesterday, me and a friend using EOS' and 2 of their own gunners using vibes, one with a barrel, feedneck, grip/frame upgrades. In all fairness we did pretty much cane them when it came to skill and firepower, yet they seemed like they were having fun, and the one even won topgun. They seem smooth and you can run them off co2 or air, one straight off upgrade i must say, is trigger, barrel, ASA, feedneck upgrades to ensure you get slightly more accuracy, more responsive trigger, and so your hopper stays on the gun.

In all fairness, its the player behind the gun, not the gun behind the player, but you defo need to go electropneumatic
