I've slowly but surely been getting into my photography more and more, mostly of motosport, but wanted to have a smash at paintball photography for a laugh...

do you photographers get in the field with the gamers, or what? if so, do you put a box on your camera? or just hope for the best???

You do get on the field on the side lines . Hopeing for the best is not the wisest of ideas because most likely you are going to get hit, So it's always best to have protection for the most important thing your camera. There are all-sort of covers for cameras out there just pick one up for your self if you are thinking of getting in to this.

( I am not an expert so i would contact someone on this forum with more experience on this matter )

Here is a good sight.

I have taken video and photos very successfully fomr the sidelines and have had a few close runs with the odd paintball or spray..I see it as a risk worth taking sometimes for the best shot..

see youtube videos of wildwoodz or the wildwoodz forum for examples..

good luck

I've seen the regular pball photographers don't use the armour that is in common supply. They seem to have some kind of cover that reminds of a motorbikers grips for cold weather. Like a big glove that covers not only the camera but also the hand as well. I would love to get my hands on one of those so if anyone got a link to that please post up.

Personally I think the armour that is generally available for camera's would do little to protect from the impact of a paintball and especially the oozing of the contents into the camera's interior.

It's good practice to put a Skylight filter on any lens you use. You may get upset paying £20 for a filter, but it does save the lens in most situations.

For videos, I took one of those clear vanity cases with aluminium sides, drilled a whole in the bottom, mounted a QD shoe from a tripod through it, into the camera. Operate by remote control.

The sides can be replaced with thicker polycarbonate etc if needed. Works for me. I even just stick it on the tripod in a suitable place on the field and go play.

The second cover down, i also have one similar, though mine is more canvas material and a bit more substantial looking. Because I cant afford a massive Image Stabiliser lens, you can actually sleeve it out, inside with a bit of drain pipe, which will certainly protect the lens from impacts on the top and sides, when combined with the front protection, if you see what I mean.
