Y'all seem to be missing the important point. Stuff like the padded jerseys and bouncy vests were against the rules until the manufacturers applied enough pressure to the major leagues to "modify" the rules. Y'all can debate their intentions, value, girlyness, etc. till you all pass out from lack of oxygen and it won't make one iota of difference.

No they wouldnt be luke... if it was a hard protection type material 1 and many others wouldnt buy it

Maybe, but you are allowed to wear them, they provide more bouncers so why not...

I am not against protection if the players think they need it but I do not believe they do.
Why has the need for those type of vests materialised over the last couple of years!
A player playing competition ball should not have any advantage over any other player and they should be separated by skill and talent only.
Guns are controlled to the point that the speed they can shoot a ball and the number of balls per second they shoot so that makes that part of the game level.
Another point, if paintball inc released a new vest tomorrow that was 20mm soft foam do you realise it would be legal to use!
When do we say no .......
Gassy has made a good point about playing pants, a few of them are verging on the ridiculous and like vests they must be addressed.
What should happen is the leagues agree kit criteria that will come in force for competition paintball in 2010 and tell all the manufacturers so they can sort themselves out before they start to design that seasons lines.

I fail to see how there can be any advantage gained when these vests are available to everyone.

I also would think that If I were trying too ..lets say..promote paintball as a valid sport to a large international sporting body..Then I would welcome the use of protective vests to highlight the fact that were not a bunch of morons who think it's 'ard' to risk potential serious injury,that infact we are aware of the dangers and are pro-actively working towards finding an ideal solution so that we can all play safe....

Of course there will be pain involved ,I don't personally wear pads because I find them restrictive and I come home with a lot of bruises sometimes, doesn't mean I think I'm radio and it doesn't mean I think we should all be dressed as Mama Cass but showing them off hardly promotes the sport no?

Here's an idea..stop idiots shooting **** paint ,have a one layer rule with bounce vests,and stop the paintball mindset of 'shoot the **** out of him' and enforce it.

And Revolt ..FFS just stop will you .

Added this post on the subject,I'm not a fan but wouldn't mind if the vests didn't "promote" bounce.
Depends on the reason for use and they vary as seen in this thread,some very honest players admit to obtaining an advantage by wearing it.

When I was told about them being developed they talked about them as a training aid vest, and as far as I can see they would not sell that many less if that is all you could use them for.
Hell most teams use a lower grade paint for training and the vest may have a legitimate use but in competition it is just a cheat vest, nothing more nothing less.

I will be allowing there use at the PA because I am using the Millennium rules, don't mean I like them.

Baca, I think maybe you have missed the point, or at last the important part of it. The manufacturers aren't driving the trend, they just follow what the customer wants, and customer thinks only of what can give him, personally, an advantage. The manufacturer comes up with a product to meet demand, and then applies pressure to have it allowed in tournaments so their customers can actually use said product.

It's Joe Paintballer who is in the driving seat, and as long as he is, the tourney world is an arms race.

Lets stick to the vest issue for the moment.

If you think that they do not offer the advantage I am talking about I guess you will not use one then....

Lets be sensible at this point, everyone knows they promote bouncers and that is because of there construction.
It would be very easy to keep the characteristics they claim they are selling them for and keep the comfort for the user without the other players potentially having to shoot the wearer several times to get a paintball to burst.
