heh well lots to respond to here :p

RE: caps
No caps in that, they hide a problem rather than solve it, we just had three heavy duty 15.5v northstar batteries

we do have Digital Bass Reconstructors... but they are only there as line drivers to give the amps more power.
Yes 4 different EQ's in the car. No mic we do it all by ear :p and there are 5 switches in the roof to turn different things on and off... we recently (well about 6 months ago) fitted a smoke machine and lazer pen type thing to it for the shows.
8 inch subs are a thing of the past, ive put bigger speakers in my doors **rolls eyes** :p

and finally i think the golden note your looking for is 33.3Hz... which is a myth about it being the G-note... but they do love it :) as a business i think we still hold a european record for SPL in street A (standard car, with standard interior, and the sub box is not allowed to be any bigger than the original boot space) so of course we used a fiat panda and got near on 170db

and a sister company of ours in Finland (yes, finland of all places) i think still holds a record for SQ.. but.. dont hold me to that

which would probably kill you if you sat in it... its operated by remote :p

and yes, being 21 myself, i get dubbed as one of those exact "6x9 loving" boy racers, but ive never even OWNED a set :) lol

This is true. Still, when you have the space, for batterys and larger alternators as you do in a van, it's all good. Can be a problem for the guys building in smaller vehicles

well Yes, but an 8 inch sub, is perfect for putting under a seat and still maintaining use of said seat! indeed.

I personally favoured 8 or 10 inch full range jobbies over 6x9's, mind you, they used to fit nicely in pods on the transmission tunnel under the dash. Never did it as a business, but for the experience and funds available, the systems were pretty decent.
Sounds like your company are the shizzle. I haven't built a system for about 10 years so obviously, it's all going to have change a great deal, especially with the solid state MP3 players etc.

The funniest thing about Bass, is when it makes you sound like Orville.

Or, when your driving along with the window open. Usually, you can hear the wind rushing past "shhhhhhhh", but even with a small sub, it goes "shhh" "shhh" "shhh" in time with the bass, as the air is being pushed out of the car:D

You can, actually kill yourself with enough air movement. There is a story of a couple of kids in the USA, who built a powerful system, sat in in and turned it up, eventually it stopped getting louder, so they opened the window which. This allowed the system to move more air, and they couldn't breathe, so passed out then died due to lack of oxygen.

yup tis true

the brown note and muscle spasm note is true too, but im not too sure what it is...

however, interesting story...

the human body resonates at 7hz... so obviously play that note loud enough and the body will resonate itself apart, you cant physically do it with mechanical speaker...

so some french (i think french) guy figured out he can do it by building whats the equivelent of an 8-foot wide pipe, and blowing a jet engine across the end of it (making it like a pipe organ)... being the not so safety concious people back in the 50's, they had a test team, and the decided to start up said jet engine. on the start up sequence the entire team fell about in agony, one had the strength in him to turn the engine off. by the time the engine had turned off, there were no more test team. just puddles of fleshy coloured goo...

RE Air movement...

yes the black van itself makes it HARD for you to brief, yet not impossible... we were doing a mini show at work last summer and we burped our SPL car.. and someone was stupid enough to open the door, everyone within about 100ft felt VERY sick instantly... but it was one of those 'everyone stops and looks in disgust.. but after 5 or 6 seconds everyone laughs' type moments

Mythbusters did the brown note with a large modified (down to 5hz) Meyer sound system, and the result.....busted.

heheh maybe ill take the van to a tourney and see if we can get the female paintballers to help us out busting a myth maybe? (the, 'girls have an orgasm if you play a certain note loud enough' myth)

could have interesting effects :)
