"Hello.

Yes, as has been stated below in other posts, we were formerly team Paintoon, which competed for 2 seasons in the Millennium Series' CPL division under the name of Sacramento XSV at the request of Mr. Rich Telford.

We have now assumed the name of Lisbon Benfica, and are SPORT LISBOA & BENFICA's official paintball team.

Basically we kept the same roster and just changed name.

This could be a nice development for paintball and could possibly lead to other big names getting into the game. (Random info:the soccer team Benifica has American Freddy Adu, who played soccer in Americas pro league before moving to Portugal)

So far it's been great, as soccer is such a big deal here in Europe, and that is especially the case in Portugal, it has opened up alot of doors for us, and consequently for Paintball.

There is also another Portuguese team, formerly team Estratego that has made the move to becoming Sporting Clube de Portugal's (Also another one of Portugal's and Europe's major soccer teams) official paintball team.

We now have a fully recognized Portuguese Paintball Federation, and recently have had one of the main national TV networks come to cover one of our National Series tournaments (www.lppaintball.org) and there was a piece about paintball in the prime time evening news, which portrayed competitive paintball, and paintball as a whole, under a very positive light.

You can find the piece that was on the news here:

Now, as I imagine that many of you do not speak Portuguese very fluently, I will just let you know that the piece itself talks about how paintball has evolved recently, and how it is statistically one of the safest sports you can practice, and just a couple of explanations about it.

In case anyone's curious, I'm at the end of the video bunkering the opposing snake player. [/shameless-self-promotion]

On subject...this could be very interesting, especially if they dont have much experience.

Like stated above, our team has been at the top of the Iberian Paintball scene for over 5 years and have been competing at the top division of the Millennium Series for the past 2.

No, we are officially Sport Lisboa & Benfica's paintball team.

The team may have then approached the soccer club who are essentially sponsoring the team to play under their name - only thing I can think of! Would make more sense than a soccer club randomly buying a spot in Europe's top league of Paintball!

You sir, pretty much hit the nail right on the head.

In addition to this, we'll be wearing Dye C8 gear from head to toe, including our very own custom Lisbon Benfica C8 jersey.

And yes, that is a Photoshop, but that's just a rough draw of what the jersey is going to look like.

We are also sponsored by Ponto de Mira which is one of the largest paintball companies in Portugal.

I would also like to take this moment to thank all our sponsors, because it is them that allow us to do what we love, and I can safely say that without them it would be impossible.

Thank you very much for your support and I hope this pioneer initiative can help paintball grow and make sure it is recognized as a legitimate sport.

Just speaking from my personal experience, I can say that just since paintball has been in prime time tv, I've had several people approach me and ask about paintball, or when I mention it, they immediately know what I'm talking about and/or have even seen it on television.

And let me tell you it's a great feeling to see that people are actually interested in the sport we all love and they recognize it as a legitimate sport.
Looks like they are being sponsered and afilliated with sporting benfica. which to be honest could be a right step forward in paintball anyone in britain thought about doing this? probably not, would it work in this country - i doubt it but its an idea.

english teams are too up their own arse to sponsor a paintball team, possibly a lower divison team might, they wouldnt really have the money too though......
i could also imagine it taking a lot of time and effort to actually get a big club to even listen to you

it was on the 2nd page which has scarred me for the day having to read that much pbn

I think ballers are just as bad as the clubs trying to merge the 2 would be very difficult but, with other portugese teams doing it, it would give a starting block.

"Hey Man Utd fancy us playing paintball in your name with you sponsering us, Benfica do it!!."

hmmm interesting. im gonna get barcelona to sponsor me with 9v batteries and arsenal to buy my next marker. :X
The reason they would want to sponser you is?

This in my opinion wether Dave is being sarcastic or not is the reason this wouldnt happen in the uk.

The majority of british ballers want everything for free as "they have deserved if for coming 3rd in a koth event."
