just wondering does anybody know how to remove the c-clip from the rear firing can as im having a bit of dificulty

Using pliers on the c clip would just bend it out of shape! you should just be able to pull it off without too much trouble.

the pliers just slip off it and because im putting a new powerlyte body on my ion and you need to take the back donut off because ita a "BOB" design and you need to take the c-clip off to get the donut off.

There is a special tool which you can buy from most good tool shops (even Halfords I think) Can't remember exactly what they are called but they look like a pair of pliers but they have very thin needle type ends.
The tool allows you to spread the C clip quickly and easily with no fuss.
It may be actually called a "C clip removal tool".
If in doubt take the rear firing can into a good tool shop and they will point you in the right direction.
Don't use pliers on this, you will Fcuk up your Ion.

Yep C-clip/snap ring/circlip(i think) pliers, get one that does both widen and bring in (the nose of the pliers should be reversable or similar.
Only a few quid each, damn useful too (still need to go get some come to think of it)

Balf is correct, they are reversible, i think my pair are made by CK, but they are definitely a useful tool to keep in your kit.
