1. If a player ask's for a call, always do it straight away, even if there is loads paint going past each side of there bunker.

2. Don't argue another refs call, arguing between refs is never a good thing

3.Players will disagree with you, just keep your cool.

4. Firm but polite obv.

5. If you think your going to get hit, don't squirm up into a ball, it will make the other refs think your a pussy :p

6. Make sure you know what your doing, make sure everyone else knows what there doing for sure. Thats the most important.

Hope it helps :)

How to be a good Ref

1. Sometimes, players forget to take allen keys out of their pockets before going onto the field, and sometimes they even have them inside their gloves, the silly sausages.

2. Always remember that it is the Ultimate's job to keep an eye on the tea van. Russ is renowned the world over for this.

Don't stand there scratching your balls. If a player asks for a check, or asks you to check someone else, DO IT. :)
NO as Matt said dont run around like a headless chicken does the players no good or the refs, zone with the other refs. Majority of time ref is watching other players in question.

paint dont bother me, thats what body armour is for shish but, it does annoy me being asked to field a paintcheck every 20 seconds knowing the fact you couldnt of got hit as ive just been lit up 10ft away from you and not a single ball landed near you.

My top tips -

Stay sober night before made this mistake once and got hammered at welsh open 05 throwing up in my mask next day.

wear body armour - the amount of refs who say nahh dont need it im not a pu**y. These are the refs who stand on the sideline hiding in the netting. It doesnt make you any bigger man or women by not wearing it. Im probably one of the biggest refs there but i still wear it.

read and learn the rule books and also know what the rules mean. its no good reading and lerning them if you dont know how to either implement them or understand them.

Be polite but firm. never shout, even if a player is going skitzo. Best thing i find do is ask if they have finished shouting, seems to work most times.

Treat all players fairly (like kids tbh :D is the easiest way) no favours for anyone.

Clean barricades in between points but everyone do it including the ultimate even if he only does it for 20 seconds while the teams walk to the start gate.

And one of the most important is do your job dut have fun, if your not having fun then you wont want to be on that field and it will ruin your performance as a ref.

this is also really good advice for players to its saved my team/players being suspended on numerous occasions and won us the odd game :D

don't forget players should respect the ref none of this footballers bull-poo!! - you will be amazed if your reffing all day how few "thank yous" you get! (better last few times i've reffed thou, i try to thank every ref at masters and other events ive played)

pad up if your reffing, your allowed layers :) don't be afraid to slide in to paint check (just think of where lines are coming don't cross them to annoy the other team and allow openings)

and enjoy!

1, Always thought it was funny when I saw a ref chrono someones gun at the start box, then says "it's a bit hot anyone got a Allen key for it" and three of the team offered them up.

Sod all up with the gun, he was just sure they had some keys on them.:)

2, You tasted the Tea in the States, I was not keeping my eye on the van. I was complaining:eek:

Seriously, helped me ;)

Don't stand where you know you'll get drilled.
Concentrate on your assigned area of the field, don't get distracted
STICK TO DECISIONS
Don't take any jipp..
