ive never worn the refs hats but looking at them, they just look like a thick baseball cap, where as ive worn "bounce/bump" hats before and they dont mould to your head they have a hard plastic inner like a hardhat but not as thick with a cloth exterior to make them loko better.

Wondered if anyone could shed some light on the refs ones what there made of etc.

the cap doesn't have a plastic liner. It's thick neopren padding, increases chances of a bounce and protects your head from nasty bumps. Worth it.

I got given one of those £8.99 hats- really good things, yeah, they don't mold to your head but they're fairly comfortable (the one I've got's got foam pads inside to make it comfy)
Well worth getting, and if you can't afford a hundredth monkey one they're still ok.

The padded ones are made only of neoprene and mold to your head; not much difference to the hard hats though in terms of pain.
