Strange Clicking on ION

Hey,

I've recent bought a smart parts ion. I was looking at it and pushed back the bolt (it was foward before) into reverse position. Now, i've noticed that when ever I point the gun at the ground and fire a strange click comes from inside the gun with every shot. I was just wondering if this is normal or not. I have never gassed up the gun at all so far, and so I dunno if this affects that at all.

Thanks.

This may sound a bit silly; but are you sure it isn't just the microswitch behind the trigger?!

Or even the Solenoid...

does the trigger click when switched on or off or both ?? if it clicks when switched on but not off then its the solenoid. if it clicks when off or on then its the trigger connecting with the microswitch. you'd be best airing up the ion and giving it a whirl. if it doesnt work then youve got a problem.

with an ion there are two sounds (plus the gun actully firing :) ) :

first a small click this should sound every time you pull the trigger wheather the gun in on or off. this is the metal strip hitting the electric trigger button. (take off you grips and you cant miss it)

the second is a lounder click, im not quite sure what it is but it comes from behind the on/off button, this should only sound when the gun is on and you pull the trigger (aired or not)

hope that helps

that'd be the solenoid operating....

some of the solenoids seem to produce a different volume of click when cycling with out air dependant on which angle you hold the marker.....

it should be fine - but there is no way to tell until you air it up (and turn off the eyes if you are firing without paint.....although they should be off if the solenoid is cycling without paint......)

if the solenoid is cycling at least you know that the board, switch and solenoid are fine.......

AHh ok thanks people. It's the solenoid then. Can anyone tell me, what exactly is a solenoid?

It's the actuator that allows the stored pressurised air in the marker to cycle, therefore allowing a paintball to be shot.

If the gun is gassed up with no paint, then it will just go 'bang', if no air, all you will hear is the solenoid going 'click'.

Check out the tech sticky for a guide to Ion's, to give yourself a little bit of a heads up as to how the thing works.
