Bottle Blows Up

I love how fast this thread has turned in to a witch hunt.
I resent that term. You only have to send me a PM and I'll turn up. No need to hunt for me ;)

Totally agree on the bottle issue. Over-reaction is a pretty common trait, so calm everyone and wait to see what the problem was from the experts. Most likely it is another oil flash fire issue accident. The important things are:

1. Is Nige ok (which he seems to be albeit a bit battered and bruised.)
2. What was the cause and can we avoid it in future (we'll have to wait and see.)

A witch hunt, common denominator seems to me to be the material that caught fire, we should wait for an official report or dont forget the organisers or air suppliers can always forbid there use in the mean time, i for one will hold back untill i have sufficient info to make an accurate desicion in the interest of safety.

There can be no over reaction when it comes to peoples lives. Safety HAS to come first..

All tournament series', and sites that run with HP air should ban the filling of these bottles until it is found out exactly what caused the 3 incedents, not the other way round!!! Theorys of oil being added externally should be treated as just that, theories.

These bottles are factually unsafe, and will continue to be until something else can be pinpointed for causing all 3 of these explosions!

Open your eyes people! We are so so lucky no one has died from these 3 incedents so far. Someone will if these bottles are continued to be used. If that happens, paintball in the UK will be banned. End of story..

Most people who have not seen a Stako explode during filling apparently have no idea of the devestation that it can cause. The ignorance here is horrifying

Glad you are ok Nige.

Did you soil yourself?
Hi mate, NO, I didnt. :D I did find my trousers were all undone when I had time to settle. Not ruling out the possibility that someone could of had a quick fiddle :D
Nige

Perhaps it was the guns fault - I think the last one was also pink!

Russ
:D Thanks Russ, that made me chuckle :)
Nige

Hope your ok mate, get well soon.

Did the barrel go a caramel brown? ;)
No mate I think it went black :( :D

This is a serious insident guys and I am sure it will be looked into. For us that dont know the ins and outs like H-Pac, Russ etc we need to listen to them and stop going on a witch hunt. Innocent questions by you guys could do more damage without you knowing. We need to think about our kit and if you are unsure then bin it, if not thats your choice. The main thing with this is we need to stop this happening again as it does hurt but thankfully no one was killed.
Let the guys who know what they are doing sort this out and then we can all benefit :)

Also, people should recognise..

That this safety issue doesnt just affect themselves, it affects everyone withing a 200metre radius of them and their bottle.
Everyone needs to recognise that by using a factually unsafe bottle, they are a risk to everyone around them when they fill.

I know i would never ever want the death of a friend or anyone on my concience, especially when you know that the risk is proven not to be there with other bottles..

Please just think about you actions, for everyones sake..

In the spirit of what some people are saying here, I have created this interesting statistic:

There have been a total of 4 paintball tank explosions last year known to public...

4 out of 4 tanks were carbon fiber ones/glass fiber.
4 out of 4 tanks were filled with high pressure air.
4 out of 4 tanks have exploded due to internal combustion caused by oil in the tank
4 out of 4 tanks have had the regulators blown off in pieces
3 out of 4 tanks were manufactured by Stako
2 out of 4 explosions happened while the tank was mounted to an Ego (1 was a DM, the Madrid one is unknown)
0 out of 4 tanks really exploded, as could be seen from various pictures the worst damage was to the part of the bottle that had the threads...

How about an Occam's Razor?

Glad to see you're ok Nige. I've had a few of the standard air fittings fail when teching the PA and that was scary enough, but a bottle seperating from a reg is in a different league.

Again, it's great to see you're ok Nige.:)

PS, i bet you wish you had it on video.;)

Maybe if someone quotes this every other post the penny will drop that other tanks do go pop.

Just a case of statistics isn't it, if more people use the lightweight bottles there will be more instances of failures arising in conection to light weight bottles (maybe not the bottles failing though)

Oh and glad you OKish Nige, whoever you are :)
That is the only non Stako explosion at filling that i have EVER heard of...

Your stats point makes no sence! How many people do you think use normal fibre wrapped tanks and have done over the last 10 years!?!?

These tanks have an aluminium inner liner, Stakos have a plastic inner liner.
3 Stakos have exploded in the past year..
Either of these contructions WILL explode if oil is added to the mix. The point with the Stakos is that at 1 maybe 2 or 3 of the recent Stako explosions, no oil was proven to be added!!
Surely even the most ignorant can see this as suspect?? Even if you can't see that, surely you don't even want to take the risk?????:eek:
