I'd have thought that's over doing it with the chill factor, i tried that once and the paint swole and cracked the shells - not good. All you gotta do is keep it in a cold dry place. IE garage in winter, or the fridge for an hour or 2.

thats wierd, iv seen it done a few times and thats never happened. The paint doesnt actually freeze and therefore shouldnt expand
