I've picked a lot of modern cinema and stuff I think will appeal. I could go into a lot of oldies but I dont think the younger forum members will appriciate the gesture so instead went for this lot which I'll add to when I can be bothered. Please check these films out. Everyone of them is fantastic. Not nessessarily always ground shattering but just damn good examples of cinema. 300 is still flawless but only because im on the DVD! ;-)
Cloverfield (cinema Feb 1st) - "Godzilla + Blair witch = ooooooh"
Fulltime Killer (DVD rent or buy) - "Tartan asian sub'd. two hitmen compete for the heart of a girl and the number one killer spot. One reserved and intelligent, the other sadistic, ruthless and brilliant"
Bangkok Dangerous (DVD rent or buy) - "Tartan asian sub'd. A young deaf and mute hitman must avenge his young master. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. This film has one scene that has influenced my most of my own work when I studied film."
Lady in the water (DVD rent or buy) - "a new, modern fairytale set in a completely harmless world. A man troubled by his past must help and protect a waterwoman when she is most vunerable with help from the people closest to him. This is so beautiful. Open your heart to the story as it is intended and it is so innocent and so rewarding."
Bourne Trilogy (DVD rent or buy) - "Dont dare watch them seperately. These are one long perfect film cut into three. These are the reason James Bond lost the gay act, todays audiences need realism and Bourne delivers. A young man is found in the ocean riddled with bullet holes but alive and with no memories. As time goes on he remembers elements of his past. He is blackops. US covert operations. The final chapter answers all the questions in the most perfect fashion. Each chapter gets ever better with the most excellent climax in the form of 'Ultimatum'."
300 (DVD rent or buy) - "Just bloody watch it!"
Brewsters Millions (DVD rent or buy) - "A minor league has been baseball star inherits 300 million dollars but theres a catch. In order to 'earn' it he must first spend 30 million in 30 days and have nothing to show for it. No assets, just the clothes on his back. Absolutely fantastic feel good film from the 1980's."
