With all the major marker manufacturers now making entry level machine gun mowing gats ie SLG ,ION, ETEK, PROTEGE,etc how come playing apparel is staying the same price if not getting more expensive (trousers, jerseys, pads, goggles etc)?

ive just been on a couple of uk sites and some of this gear is the same price as when i stopped playing two years ago. an example being a pair of 2006 style trousers being £17 cheaper than the must have 2008 model.

so much for getting people into the sport and making it cheaper !

Yes we will sell you a mowing machine to shoot fools with but we will make up the difference by charging top wack for you to look like your favourite player because all this kit is needed to play the game

so why havent these prices dropped in line with markers as surely they are sold in larger numbers and are cheaper to make than an electro marker with all its gadgetry?

DISCUSS;)

syd i understand what your saying about making money , but all the time over the years that i can remember all this gear has nearly remained constant especially the likes of goggles i remember paying £50 for a pair of jt whipper snappers back in 1991 or £6 each for an indian spring pot(at least the price of pots have gone down).
i just carnt work out that say a pair of dye c8 trousers cost just £30 less than an proto slg marker, surely fabrics are cheaper than alumimimun, electronics, etc found in a marker

and also slightky off subject what happened to dye cleats theyre not sold on dyes website?

The way I see it is that there is cheaper stuff available if you want to spend less on kit such as I picked up a pair of C5 pants for around £35 on here and they are great. And you say that you can pick up a PMR for just over the price of a pair of C8 pants but if you are going to be buying a PMR then chances are you won't be looking for a £120 pair of pants. Yes the new stuff is expensive but its not like you are forced to buy the brand new kit, there is cheaper stuff available if you want it.

If people will pay it you can charge it. Simple as

If people stop paying it then you temporarily reduce the RRP (andyour margins) until the volume of sales picks up and your costs subsequently drop, increasing the profit margin again. Price setting is an art form

Dye Cleats were discontinued.

Also... Paintball companies are justified in what they charge for specialist items. Where else have you seen anything like paintball trousers? (apart from the back of MC Hammer's wardrobe of course). They're a relatively specialist item, as well as other bits of kit, it's much the same in other sports like horse-riding or fencing.

The example you're using simply doesn't justify asking for a price drop on these items. For example the profit on things like the SLG relies on selling a large amount in quantative terms at a low price and smaller profit margin to match the market, and their performance is nothing more than the result of technology advances since the guns of the same price that were about when you had just started out.

It's all proportional really.
