quick question....

just changing a fill nipple on my preset... should the piston be pushed right in (tight fit) or just resting so the o-ring seals at the end?

sorry for asking such simple things!

Only needs to be screwed in a few threads. There has to room for the piston to move back, or else you will fill up very slowly or it wont fill at all. Clean the internal of the fill nipple plus the oring, dont use any oil in there.
You can use ptfe tape or ptfe paste around the threads to seal it.

thanks,

what i actually meant was....

the fill nipple is in 2 parts, should the piston be pushed inside the fill nipple, or just resting inside so the o-ring will seal at the very end (rather than somewhere inside)

hope that makes sense?

cheers

Either way, it doesnt matter. When filling up with air, the pressure will force the piston back. When theres pressure in the bottle, it will force the piston forward creating a tight fit between the oring and nipple.

Ive just made sense of what you are asking. The piston without the oring end should be placed into the fill nipple first. I assume that is what you were asking ?

thats right, so the end without the o-ring sits inside the nipple leaving the very end (thread side) sealed by the o-ring..... what i wasnt sure of, was should the whole piston be inside the nipple, or should it be free moving, with part inside acting as a guide?

pictures would really help this!

It will generally only go in one way; and Alan has explained that already.

As to the above, it makes no difference; it will freely move when there is no air in the bottle, will move towards the bottle when you're filling up, and then back towards the outside world (sealing the nipple) when the bottle is holding air.

Does that make sense?
