well for just under 2k, you can get a 98 reg Golf 1.4.
for a bit under/over 1 k, you can get a 1.2zetec fiesta 2000reg(newer shape)
if you dont care about street cred, you can get a skoda fabia with fack all miles on for about £1500

Not really, for you young 1st car guys its all about insurance isn't it, that's the killer. In reality you granny will probably be driving a nicer car than you can afford to insure.

i think the percentage is well into its 90's, but a simple fact most new drivers have a accident in there 1st years driving. so get a shed £500 max run the ass off it reverse into lamposts hit the garden wall and bump a car trying to park in a carpark. then eventually go up someone rear cause you were too busy banging the tunes on, and when you hit your 2nd year you can get a better car knowing you have already done all the stupid sh*t

I remember a guy at work buying a 50 quid 1.1 fiesta for his step son, only to get a best quote of 1,100 quid to insure it. A lot of young guys I know have their parents guarantee a finance agreement on a new car with free insurance as that works out cheaper.
