i use a light coat of vasaline on the washers and then the light eclipse oil on the o-rings?

i dont think my regs stuffed because the DM was more consistant i think the regs stuffed because it isnt consistant

Yeah, granted...but...it's not even close to an ego in manner of operation!
If you had said...I tried my mates 06 and it was more consistent...that's different

Anyway...my suggestion is new piston and o rings mate as above

Use vasaline or Dow 33 on the o-ring too.

Try replacing the piston as skeet suggested.

even abit of wear on it will cause inconsistancy.

i thinks that could be it the does seem to a bit of wear in the brass on the actual shaft of the piston though not so much on the black bit on the top
il get myself a new and see what happens

ego's arent particularily consistent compared with closed bolt markers, but all have their ups and downs... wait til the dm goes down for no reason and they have to spend hours stripping it and re-lubing it.

The way the shims are stacked on the reg, should they be ()()()() etc, or )()()(
obviously with more in the middle...

DMs are NOT closed bolt, the bolt is however ENCLOSED but it is still an open bolt marker. You've managed to miss the mark with both of the flawed statement you have made there. Well done, try reading the manual.

There are 16 shims in the ego reg (unless SL74 or 08).

There aren't that many closed bolt markers about these days...not amongst the really popular markers anyway.
