Lowering of BPS limits - what say you?

I think that 12 won't really be that great a difference to 15, as for teams using less paint; i don't think the drop to 12 will make much difference either. It all depends on the player, if they're constantly shooting at 12 bps for 5 mins they'll still get through 10 pots. In my opinion the only way the tournaments are gonna become slightly more "affordable" for the teams is for game rules to be altered. *** looks back to what beaker mentioned on new psp rules*** , personally i don't care what they cap firing/ramping rate's at as ive always fired semi and am more than happy to carry on doing so.

10bps gunfights? wheres the fun in that?

its gotta be machineguns blazing!
You do know that most "proper" machine guns shoot at around 10 rounds a second? ;)
Gunfights will still be intense - if not more so - because it will be harder to dominate by sheer firepower alone.
I'm very much in favour of ~10-12bps cap - I think it will open games up to more movement and allow more audacious breakouts and gameplans (providing field design doesn't go all Tomahawk A'dam 2005 on us!), and make laning a proper skill again.

Not really caring much about real machine guns here, all that stuff is beyond me... :)

I think 12 would be the correct speed if we have to move away from 15.

10 would make the game too open, movement would become too easy. 15 is unforgiving if you do stupid things. 12-13 would be a nice balance.

if this happens teams like joy division mite have to re think their strategy , as players have more chance to get to the snake corner off the break

I'm curious as to why you think 10bps making the game "too open" is a bad thing?
Surely fast, exciting games are the ultimate goal (few people seem to think otherwise these days, at least those who play tournaments), and it was possible to shoot people on the move in the days of pump and mech semi, so why not with a 10bps cap?

For the record, I would prefer 12bps, but would be perfectly happy with 10 if that was what the Powers that be decided - laning would be more of a challenge like it was back in the old days, and I might be able to make the snake on the break again....

Pebble - Personally I can't see Joy's dominance (of the Euro scene) being wobbled by a lower BPS cap, after all they were ****-hot laners in the EXL pre ramping (and continue to be in the NPPL), if anything it will give them a greater advantage as their gun skills will become more relevant as other teams lose the firepower equaliser.

Just my views of course. :)

Way I see it is, movement should be something that the game (i.e. paintball) makes you work for, and rewards you with.

Of course it was still possible to shoot people on the move with a pump gun/mech, but it should be lot easier shooting 15bps.

I cant really give you a good answer, its just personal preference of what I like about playing paintball :p

The game will change, in several ways, and until I see it/play it, I'll hold fire on further judgement, there are just too many factors that I reckon may change as a result of 10bps. 15bps pushed the game in one direction, and 10bps will be pushing it in another, what one I prefer playing, I guess il find out when the time comes.

Either way, im not going to hang up my boots if Ive got to shoot slower so yea, lets see what happens :)

The maths

Someone said earlier:what if people just play the same using marginally less paint? I think that's a pretty good point so I did some maths.

There's an extra 5ft (approx 4.6666ft if you wanna be finicky) gap between balls if you go down to 12bps which gives you 0.018 seconds extra to get out of the way. Reaction times and accuracy are going to be the same, so unless you're REALLY skinny that lane you couldn't run through is still going to be there. More aggressive play, by this logic, seems unlikely. Paint usage and cost is a worthwhile issue to think about (for and against). I'm relatively new to the sport so perhaps it's a huge difference in prctice, but I thought I'd post up the maths for speculation. I'd definately be interested to see what effect it could have on the pros, but personally I like 15 bps (welts make me smile:D). I am small and ninja-like though
