If it was to watch "pro" teams then yeah why not? there's not many places you can get entertainment for a day on a fiver, plus having a good nosy round the trade stands:)

prefer playing.

question though, if we're trying to get paintball more into the public eye (tournaments on TV etc) how are we gonna make it more interesting for the viewing public to watch/understand?

oh dear god why!!!!!

for the love of god keep the thread away from this topic, its up there with ups for my ion threads, it has been done to death, re-born and the talked to death again and now you want to bring it back in a zombified state, just grab the shovel and put the deceased back.

anyway, i wouldnt pay to watch, i think its pretty boring watching through some netting, only time i watch, is the NPPL live, mainly for everything but the games (Nicky T's hilarities, Frank LaMingo, dancing Dom etc etc) and dvd's since its just chopped up bits of action, but as a spectator at and event its crap, i watch when im waiting or a game(what else is there to do) or if i want to know the outcome of a game (if i need a team to lose to take the tourney or whatever) but other than that i just chill/mooch around the trade stands

since when did paintballers pay for anything

free stuff is where its at
amen to that!;)

It is a fairly stupid thread as we spend/blag:rolleyes: thousands of £££ worth of gear and won't spend a £5 to get into a tourney, i'm local to the Euro5man but i really begrudge having to pay to get in and certainly won't go down for both days, if the millennium's are free why are we paying admission on a smaller event? Admittedly warren puts on a good event in a great stadium, but a few cheap dancing girls dragged out of the 3 squirrels doesn't warrant my admission fee, to what is realistically just a "local" event?
..........or will there be a single european team there this year?
As last year they were all shouting "Ouch darn your great" instead of "Ouich bon vous magnifico".

Yes i know, i know.

Yeah Lucky your right we do spend thousands on gear but at least we have something to show for it. Do you actually think that Pure Rush will spend ALL them fivers on making the tournament BETTER for the players or jo public for years to come?

I think not!

wow...........that's really offensive, what the hell do you mean by that? Is this (for some of you) the we hate Pure Rush/Warren Thread or what. Ok I will explain the reasoning behind the £5 admission.

This year we will be offering FREE tickets to all spectators under 17 & £5 per person for adults, we are doing this to test the water. The reason for this is because next year we want to bring in other extreme sports such as Moto X, BMX, Inline, Skateboard etc etc & believe it or not these sports do NOT involve the Competitors paying for the event to take place. In fact paintball is the only sport that does this which is why it generally favours the rich teams (Russian Legion for example) you need a lot of money to play tournaments & then to top it of you are also paying for the event to take place.

So basically IF we can put on a great spectator event & make money from this revenue then we have the option to massively reduce the entry costs & improve the event. So this strategy is actually FOR the teams benefit in the long run & does not cost the teams a thing. It would also be very cool to introduce Tournament paintball to over 2000 genuine spectators over the weekend, if its free it's got no value & we wont have any revenue to spend on other activities to get or keep the spectators there or reduce costs or improve the event without putting up the entry fees (which I will not do).

It is in my opinion the only way to fill the stadium, its now the 5th year don't forget & we have never charged in the past & have had (like all tournaments inc Millennium) very little spectators present. At Crystal Palace you got your car robbed & at the NEC parking was a £5 (parking at the Euro 5 Man is FREE & inside the stadium, with CCTV). We run on about £15000 budget each year & we have to pay the prizes from this as well, with Milleniums on a budget of about £250,000 per event & they dont pay marshalls.

Extreme are slightly dismayed as to why:

The teams are paying for the events to take place
We have no or very little non-paintball spectators (even if it's free)
Why we are completely alienated from the other Extreme sports which generally stick together (look at X-Games etc)

Each team gets 10 passes for the event so you can bring some friends or family along for free. We have lots of entertainment over the weekend inc:

Spectator Viewing Events

Euro 5 Man Paintball Competition
1-on-1 knock-out competition
Scenario exhibition match (Scottish Warriors VS The Ghurkhas)
Juggling Inferno - Fire Circus Show
Full Commentary of the event

Participation Events

Inflatable boxing
Inflatable jousting
Gladiators Guest Appearance
Climbing Wall
Trampoline Bungee
Kids face painting
Laser Quest
Stilt walking
Juggling
Competitions throughout the day

If you look at any other spectator paying event anywhere in the UK you will find this is fantastic value for money.....Kids free don't forget! If you are playing the event its free if you are not playing & just want to watch then you are a SPECTATOR not a paintballer that weekend & nobody is forcing you to watch. If you have a team playing (which you don't) & need more passes you could always try ringing & asking rather than just slag of an idea which is effectively the Extreme groups (what do they know about extreme sports or events?) plan of how extreme events should be run.

The remark about us pocketing lots of money on this & not spending it on the event to improve quality is both ludicrous & offensive. I will show the books to you or anyone & don't mind telling you that we are over £15,000 in dept on this event & this year we need 52 teams just to break even with a 60 team capacity. If it was about making money I would not be running this event, from a business point of view its madness!!!

I don't agree that this is just a local/domestic event, please tell me any other event that has:

4.5 Million stadium
over 17.000 euros prizes
Teams like Joy Division, Shockwave, Method, Solid, Ugly Ducklings etc
Real TV Coverage
Full PGI coverage

Hope this helps to clear things up for everyone & you may not believe it now but it is the way forward & also don't forget that Extreme were directly to blame for snowboarding being recognised by sport of England as a "sport" & for getting it into the Olympics, so I would rather listen to them than people that don't like me anyway & are just trying to score cheap points. To those teams & sponsors that believe in me & the event I thank you for your support, the rest of you should stay at home & "really treat yourselves" to a Mcdonalds or KFC with the massive £5 you have saved........

Warren Maxwell
