I know we have posted this up before, but as the 2007-2008 University year is about to start and there has been an increase in interest about uni paintball, I figured a little refresher of what the Barbarians are about is needed.
What are The University Barbarians?
The University Barbarians are a team comprised of paintballers taken from Universities across the UK. The purpose of the team is to play in as many paintballing events as is possible, be they rec or tournie, with the aim of this being to have fun and raise the profile of University paintball. With a growing interest in creating international competitions between university paintball teams from around the world, the Barbarians will serve as the team to represent the UK, competing in matches against similar teams from the US, Ireland and hopefully many more.
How is this done?
Individuals wishing to join send an email asking to join the team. There are no fees or hidden costs. You are then sent a periodical email asking if the individual would like to attend a particular event. They then reply with a simple yes or no. If enough people are interested then a team is entered to that event. All that is expected is that you pay a portion of the entry fee and that you sort out your own travel and other admin.
All we ask is that you own your own kit, have a knowledge of paintball and a sense of humour. Training will be predominantly done with your own university or club team, although we have plans to carry out future Barbarians training days, where anyone from any UK university can attend.
Constraints
In order to enter the Barbarians you must be a student at a university within the UK. You also must possess your own kit which is suitable to the event in which you wish to participate. A level of paintball experience is also preferable.
Further information can be found at http://university.ukpsf.com and http://university.ukpsf.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=14.
The next event we will be entering will be the SuperLeague 5man in Darlington on the 30th of September. We have secured free entry and will be camping at the site on the Saturday, BBQing, enjoying a few beers walking the fields etc with the Teeside Uni team. We currently have enough players for one team, and enough interest for a second team. If you are interested in playing, please contact me on here, or via the forums linked above.
Thanks guys, and hope to see you all soon,
Robin Webb

PS - I would like to thank those who have helped us out over the past year and a half, especially the guys at Warped Sports and Tomahawk Paintballs.
