Fill Nipple Leak

Right - I searched and I checked the stickies but couldn't find much from them about my problem so I put up a new thread...

The problem is that my tank drops it's pressure (about 400psi a day) and by dunking it in a glass of water I found out there was a small leak coming from the thread of my fill nipple.

So I dumped all the air, used a wrench to unscrew the fill nipple, inspected the o-ring too, cleaned up the threads and used a healthy dab of Loctite 243 on the end of the thread to secure it back into place.

Now I thought this would seal and I would be good to go. I left it to cure for a few days, but when I picked it up I found the Loctite hadn't dried, and upon filling, the leak had gotten worse.

I've tried again with a larger amount of Loctite and a few days to cure, but alas the Loctite hasn't dried!

Am I doing the right thing? Is my Loctite bad? Is there a trick to it?

Thanks a lot in advance!

it looks like you've left a fair bit of loctite showing on the outside of the thread, this stops the loctite from curing. Wipe away any excess loctite after screwing up the fill nipple, it will go off much quicker.

PS> be sparing with it, too much is a bad thing.
