Well I haven't been on the boards for a very long while but felt that I should after this event.
I was going to go into a long a convoluted Trieste on why I thought this event was the worst I’ve been to in ages and it was, but then I thought of all the fun my 4x4 and me had (even when I got stuck at 9pm on Sunday night – thanks for pulling me out Spike). So doing it in bullet points as most has already been mentioned before by others. So …..
Poor choice in venue. Arable land turned over in rotation is always going to be lumpy and muddy.
Miles from civilisation.
Poor signage to the site (A4 bits of paper??)
Disappointing layout of the fields, staging areas, and vendors area.
Nice food but my bathroom was bigger than that tent they set up.
Nice beer but I was dying for something proper and stronger
Little or no help from a struggling Millennium organisation.
The chalets at the centre parc were very nice as Hpac will attest.
The weather made things much worse than they could have been.
There are more issues or points that I would raise, but I just thought of something. It was a horrible place for sure, but I did have some fun. I think at the end of the day you make of things what you will. I think we have come to expect (and quite rightly so for the money we spend) a high standard of event, and most people would have felt very let down by this one… however; I do remember when most events were like this one and in some cases worse. That was the norm that some of you younger guys will not even know about. I do think that for an activity with such a macho image we do seem to be expecting to be pampered and turning slightly gay (sorry – I don’t have a problem with gays – I love gay women lol), but maybe we should man up a bit.
However, with all that I’ve said at the end there, I’m hoping that the Millennium team will learn from this event. For our sport to continue and flourish and appeal to new blood we are going to have to look for venues near population centres, with better facilities. I’m sure for media to be more interested they will want to see us closer to the people rather than cows and corn.
