what is it with you and 'counting', and if you have actually 'counted' people that were there not because they played paintball or knew someone that did, then why did you categorically say that these people don't exist?
Gah, back to this again? I don't mean that they CATEGORICALLY don't exist, I mean the number is so small as to not be worth considering.

Magued:

I think Millenium would do well to focus on consistently providing quality organization, fields, reffing. Once they are consistently doing that, then worry about whether you're in Stadium City or BFN.

posted by chicago NOBODY GOES TO PAINTBALL EVENTS WHO DOES NOT PLAY PAINTBALL, OR KNOW SOMEONE WHO PLAYS PAINTBALL!
well chicago you are wrong buddy i went to a paintball tourney last month and I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO ONE BEFORE NOW and i do not know anyone who plays before then and also it was out in the sticks in the UK now im am slowly getting some kit together for some fun and games and getting some friends of mine into it as well

all in all i think as a newbie to the sport i think the big games should be played near to a venue for the general public to see what goes on and prehaps it might bring more people into the sport

But you'd played paintball before, right? But even if not, you went to an event out in the sticks - that only proves the point that having events in Stadium City doesn't make a difference. The event was in BFN and you still went.

i think my favourate millennium event was germany last year,
when it was in dusseldorf i think it was,
no real glitz or glamour, but a very efficient event,
it did its job well giving everything the player needed and everything close at hand.
maybe it would be best to have 4 events that did their jobs out in BFN, no thrills just paintball event,
and then have a showcase event where you pull out all the stops that you invite media and sponsors to.

Well I haven't been on the boards for a very long while but felt that I should after this event.

I was going to go into a long a convoluted Trieste on why I thought this event was the worst I’ve been to in ages and it was, but then I thought of all the fun my 4x4 and me had (even when I got stuck at 9pm on Sunday night – thanks for pulling me out Spike). So doing it in bullet points as most has already been mentioned before by others. So …..

Poor choice in venue. Arable land turned over in rotation is always going to be lumpy and muddy.
Miles from civilisation.
Poor signage to the site (A4 bits of paper??)
Disappointing layout of the fields, staging areas, and vendors area.
Nice food but my bathroom was bigger than that tent they set up.
Nice beer but I was dying for something proper and stronger
Little or no help from a struggling Millennium organisation.
The chalets at the centre parc were very nice as Hpac will attest.
The weather made things much worse than they could have been.

There are more issues or points that I would raise, but I just thought of something. It was a horrible place for sure, but I did have some fun. I think at the end of the day you make of things what you will. I think we have come to expect (and quite rightly so for the money we spend) a high standard of event, and most people would have felt very let down by this one… however; I do remember when most events were like this one and in some cases worse. That was the norm that some of you younger guys will not even know about. I do think that for an activity with such a macho image we do seem to be expecting to be pampered and turning slightly gay (sorry – I don’t have a problem with gays – I love gay women lol), but maybe we should man up a bit.

However, with all that I’ve said at the end there, I’m hoping that the Millennium team will learn from this event. For our sport to continue and flourish and appeal to new blood we are going to have to look for venues near population centres, with better facilities. I’m sure for media to be more interested they will want to see us closer to the people rather than cows and corn.

Well i may be way off the mark here but i think missy should know what she's talking about and i agree we do need to bring the game to places where it can be seen by the population which i think birmingham did very well close to city centre plenty of hotels, plenty of posters, coverage on local news fantastic seating area [you could see the fields ]so come on millenium bring it back to birmingham !!!
