it could make the game easier in some ways because if there is one big advantage of starting at a certain end then everytime the team that starts from that end is going to win everytime, by using the mirrored format then the win is decided by the skill of the players and not the field layout.

Just my 2p:D

ok i do apolgise if i am wrong

but surley it dosnt matter which end you start on as in sup air games the feilds are basicly mirrored(apart from the 50)

fair enough about the comments about the sun or other factors unable to be combated but that is the simple fact with all sports that their is some small factor that is unfair its life.

Mike have you actually read this thread cos i'm confused by your comment?

if theres one thing i've noticed with supair fields, its that the field is never identical from both ends. There are always slight differences to enable you to shoot different lanes or make other moves.

right mike_measures you've completely got the wrong end of the stick!! did you stop reading the original post half way through?!!

And jesus you are right, no two ends are exactly identical, however the differences are usually very small and not enough to drastically change the game plans prepared by the teams. i think russell is wanting something a little more..noticeable!

unsymmetrical fields are more exciting for spectators, as the teams dont all try the same thing everytime. however, if layout isnt symmetrical you'll end up with issues like Evilbug highlighted. with teams trying to waste time when theyre on the side they dont like. You'll probably find that one side of the field will consistently be winning the games.

I'd far rather see a more balanced field layout that can be effectively pushed/won on both sides (and the middle too if possible) - artificially creating a strong snake/D-wire for one side will just encourage that side to be played, leading to the boring repetition of game plans that we see today; the only difference will be that one team is always pushing snake side and the other D-wire or however you weight the field.

A balanced field that has some nice blind lanes allowing movement, but not so many to allow "jack-in-the-box" paintball (like some of the Millennium set-ups from 2005), would address that problem far more effectively imo, and allow teams to be creative rather than rail-roading them into certain gameplans.

For spectators sake i would have a mirrored field. Because then they can easily pick out who's the better team, as they are likely to get confused as to which teams better for what reasons if you mess about with the bunkers.

Also want to try an uneven field try the Bassets Pole one or play Uttoxeter vertically.

It seems pointless in my eyes but if it works ... meh!

you also have to take into consideration the mental aspect, if one side is kicking ass because they have the advantage, even when they are on the disadvantaged side they will feel more confident and have higher morale than the team who has just been destroyed over and over for 15 mins

Interesting theory, yet one that is currently scuppered by the distinct lack of spectators at any UK paintball event ;)

Very true point but you dont see the centre circle moved about at football or the wickets made larger at cricket do you?

Just a point.

Possibly try and get some form of survey done to see whats up with the current TV Ideas ... but then again thats money many people dont have to spend.

It's an odd situation that could be resolved by possibly giving a survey to say 100+ average joe blogs along with say a tape of the ESPN footage (one of the best I've seen for knowledge enhancement etc ...) and give them questions (multiple choice for simplicity) ranging from. What is snap shooting? What is the 50? to things like What would excite you more or make this kind of program easier to view (more of an open question for people to write opinions ... you could also have a few closed questions also (i.e. chose from these features ...).

Just an idea.
