You can NEED the US teams, but it doesn't matter, because they ain't coming.

Nobody has the money to play THREE series.
Smart thing to do would be to integrate Stateside and then maybe play over here as well but even then, that might stretch the coffers a buck too far.

Yeah - but they were crap teams anyway ;)
You`re probably right;) But Jacksonville Raiders may think different, since they won the PSP tournament in div. 1 X-ball before the World Cup. And ended in 3. place after Gridlock & Aftermath in div. 1 in the PSP series. (below NXL)
And then suddenly a team from Norway! (they probably had`nt heard about the country) consisting of FOB was up 8-0 in World Cup.:D We ended up in 5. place, just outside the final four.

The only thing it may prove is that European Pro teams can compete on the 2. best level in PSP. At least we had fun over there. But this is off topic.

I do beleive we need American teams in Europe to up the level.
I have said my opinion about this n another thread: http://www.p8ntballer-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?p=899160#post899160

There is no doubt that playing against better players makes you a better player. If you transpose this to teams playing teams, then over a period of time this will increase the overall level of play.

We have already seen that as european players travel back and forth across the pond they are bringing new skills and methods with them. This is accompanied by a more serious approach by the top european teams. That is why overall, the level of play in europe has really begun to improve.

So in answer to the post, yes we do need yank teams (or at least the best teams in the world) to come and play against our own.

However, since the period of time that these teams would need to be exposed to the euros would be at least two or three seasons before we started to see the results in our own game, it is unlikely or near impossible to see a situation where this would occur.

Turning up once or twice and scoring a few points would serve no one and achieve little for either party. To this end we may need them in the long run, but in the short run it could do more harm than good.

I think people are getting too "all over the place" with this discussion.

The points of the matter are the following:

"Should more US teams come over to Europe?"

and

"Would we benefit from it? And if so, in what way?"

Two of the advantages that people have been pointing out so far were the ones of it bringing more appeal to the events, being that there were famous PRO teams present and that people might attend for the sake of watching them, and the other advantage was that it would make European teams better because they'd compete against better teams/players.

As for the first advantage, whilst I do agree that people might be more persuaded to attend an event if it had all the pros that they read about in the magazines, that really would do nothing to develop the teams that Europe already has, as I guess they would be overshadowed in publicity by the more famous teams, and the Euro teams are the ones we should be looking to help, and furthermore, by having alot of guests from higher profile PRO teams, you achieve a similar effect of attracting public to see their favourite PROS up to a certain extent.

As for the idea that the European teams would only get better by bringing in American teams, I somewhat disagree, now, granted, you obviously improve alot by playing better teams on a regular basis, and the thought would be that if you brought in better teams, then the level of the league would improve and teams would get better.
That all sounds fine and dandy, but you just don't magically get better just because you got destroyed for the 3rd time by an American team, you have to want to get better, and as for the teams that are already getting destroyed in the CPL, they aren't going to suddenly want it just because the nationality of the team beating them has changed.

I've always read and heard that you get better by practicing people that are better than you, not ALOT better, or you risk getting beaten so bad that you hardly can understand what happened, but people that are slightly better than you so you get a hard practice, you have to give it your all, but it's acessible to you.

I think that what would most likely happen would be that teams would start getting smashed left and right by much better teams, and not much would change, because some of the teams in the CPL aren't better because they can't be, not everyone has the sponsorship budget or the practice conditions of Joy Division. And there isn't really much to learn in getting wiped off the field in 30 seconds, other than, "we suck".

Now I do believe that teams have alot to benefit by having players from those high profile PRO teams guest on their teams, because that way they can recieve some of their experience and learn alot more.

Also, we need to take into account the fact that it's not cost effective for American teams to come and play the Millennium Series, a good proof of that is how many XSV players you saw in Europe this season?

I'd say that the money their sponsors would shell out to fly them over would be better spent on the European teams to allow them conditions to improve.

And also, about the players liking to come over? I would say that when they used to come to Europe before, it was different, because there weren't tournaments in the US like there were in Europe, but now, I believe we are the ones lacking behind when you compare a MS event to let's say, an NPPL event...and that takes away some of the allure of coming over IMO.

.
It is taken for granted that teams will want to get better (and accordingly train and commit) and therefore is a common denominator to both options (Yanks coming and Yanks not coming) and can therefore be factored out, which leaves us with....teams will get better if we have better teams to play against.

I cannot for the life of me understand your reasoning here other than flagging up something that should be obvious to all.
