But when you have signed up to play you are accepting that you are going to be shot, you could argue that massively overshooting a player could be seen as assualt but you'd have difficulty in proving that in court.
What you have to look at is the reasoning behind pointing the gun and pulling the trigger.
If you are aiming at a player and shooting with the aim of eliminating him and a ref gets in the way, that's an acceptable risk on the part of the ref.
However, if you are aiming at a ref and shooting, you can only have one goal in mind, to hurt and/or injure the ref. This is where the law says that JC could have pressed charges, but luckily for your guys, chose not to.
But it's obvious from threads like these that some people will never learn, the whole "well, we're badass and that's why we're good" will really start to wear thin especially when one of your players inevitably loses their rag with the wrong person and ends up banned from a major series or having their heads kicked in. Neither of which would be good for 'ball in any way.
