Any of Bill Brysons books are good though the ones on the english language are a bit dry (but fascinating none the less)
Not read any of his in forever, but they really are great!

Freakonomics is a pretty cool read, some very interesting applications of economic theory to anything from inner city drug gangs and the KKK to sumo wrestlers and swimming pools in your back yard. Sounds a bit strange, but it's worth a shot.

Novel wise I'd recommend absolutely anything by Nelson DeMille.

David Baldacci has some great stuff out too. The original Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy is worth a read if your into anti terrorist SAS style shizzle. (Ding Chavez FTW!)

^^^^ Agree with your selections, although DeMile is really just for the train journey too and fro work.

Other good reads are Catch22 by Heller (but I guess you've read that)

Hanson books are good page turners too, I think Sick Puppy was one of his.

To be honest I don't get too read many good books these days, too busy reading work sh*te. If any of you are investment bankers, I recomend reading the Rosneft prospectus / Terms and Conditions. If you really wanna know how to screw people it's all there......

Bill Bryson's Brief History of Everything, how could I forget that one:rolleyes: It's another two in the morning 'just one more page' affair. And anything by Tom Sharpe, with the Wilt trilogy and The Throwback for sheer gut breaking laughter and Porterhouse Blue and Grantchester Grind for a little more substance. For non fiction try Fast Food Nation and Reefer Madness by Eric Schlosser, just be prepared to be nauseated by the first and angered by the second:mad:

The Zombie Survival Guide - Max Brooks along the same lines as World War Z but a hand book on how to live through a zombie attack

Any of the Grant County series by Karin Slaughter, Kisscut is my favourate but you really need to read them in order to understand the characters

The World According to Clarkson - Jeremy Clarkson a load of his newspaper articals on all sort of things from cars (of course) to having a fox in the hen house

Any of Bill Brysons books are good though the ones on the english language are a bit dry (but fascinating none the less) would especially recommend his short history of nearly everything and his latest book the thunderbolt kid (his childhood autobiography and it is absolutely hilarious)

Yeah Wasp factory is a great read although rather disturbing..Absolutely love Terry Pratchett although I know it's maybe an acquired taste ,Rankin and Rebus are alright if a little stereotypical.Love Mario Puzo stuff but am definitely going through a period of reading Junk ...Alex Higgins biography and stuff like that ..Oh yeah and both versions of Hells Angels (HT and SB's) for a laugh...I still read the Chronicles of Narnia ..is that bad.

For the non-Pratchett fans try Good Omens with Niel Gaimen (sp) funny as without the fantasy element, I highly recommend it.

and Lorenzo Carcaterra...

Fear and Loathing and Trainspotting if you want to read books that are far far superior to the films..
