would somebody please explain the actuall straight off advantages and disadvantages of drops without their personal opinion affecting it as im new and was thinking about it.
thankyou
The pros used to use them others went bahhhhh

they went out of fashion with the pros the sheep felt left out

Bingo.

Smartparts do on/off ASAs that just screw into your normal asa to lengthen the set up and give it an on/off purge :) Very nice actually :)

PS - to the guy that said just stick your arms out further... jeez.
I think Andy's comment was in reference to the fact that the asa is a secondary reg on a mini and normal drops / rails do not work:)

If you think about it shorter setups are not tighter, they expose more surface area to get shot. If you hold your arm out straight and put your hand into a fist, you will see (if you look in a mirrior) that your forearm is not exposed as it is behind your fist, therefore if someone were to shoot at it, their target would be your fist and nothing else. If you then bend your arm to bring your fist closer to your body, you will notice your forearm appears from behind your fist, increasing target size. The closer your fist gets to your body the more forearm is exposed, therefore longer setups are technically tighter. Also the longer your setup, the closer your forearm is to being paralelle with the floor, which means if it is hit the paint is more likely to bounce :D
its a case of finding the perfect midle bit where you are revealing as little as possible without a stuidly long and cumbersome (sp?) setup.

*edit for nitpickers* obviously its not quite that simple but you get the idea

Yeah, but 8ball is right, you can get an on/off extender that screws into your existing asa and has the threads for your bottle on the otherside. Basically a through-port that means your bottle is sat further backwards.

So you have ASA - Extender - Bottle.

did you get this from robbo? he was making people turn their rails round to increase the length of the set up. but if you think about it hard it does make sense.

Ok then, now explain what you do with your elbow....

And also how on earth the setup is going to be quickly manoeuvrable without throwing you off balance.
What do you do with your elbow?........simple! be aware of it and keep it tucked in. I've seen hundreds of players using a long set up that had a wider profile than i used to have when running a drop:rolleyes:

I never said it was the best set up or the most balanced but it is much more useable than the average "pro", would have you believe.
Fashion and trend state that drops are bad and you must not use them, and that is true for 80% of players, but there are 20% of players that do not fit into the "normal" shape and size or ability catagory.
For these players using a drop gives them a chance of competing and being able to handle their marker. An example of this is that we have a 13year old that trains with us and he simply cannot use a normal set up. I personally cannot use my team mates shocker because it is too long. It's not that i don't know how to use it but it simply is too long for me. My guns are set up as short as i can get them and yet i am normal sized (5'9''). If i were smaller in statue then a drop may be the way to go? if it works for me, then why not?
I know drops will always be an arguing point but if it bloody well works for someone then why the hell shouldn't they use them. Just because some retard called fi$h mouths off about them and robbo says they are bad does that mean that it is now the gospel truth that they are a sin?

Use what you like, its not my place to tell anyone what to do, but there is a reason behind people not using them, that isnt dictated by fashion.

Sir, the day I see a pro player using a 7" drop, i shall eat my hat.

Anyway, a pointless argument on the internet over a pointless gimmick that is not needed to play the game, and, like you said, in 80% of cases hinders performance.

Im out, drops suck.
