This has been known about this site for a long while and if you search on various forums you will find threads posting the name of the site. Even so nothing has ever been done in the last 2 years, why do you think anything will be done now?

i just came across a paintball store with this....i guess i'll just phone them instead. not just going to risk my card details.

If this is true - and I believe it to be - why on earth would you want to even phone them with your card details.
If they find that acceptable behaviour as a responsible company I think it is Just as acceptable to give your business to a company that at leasts cares for the security of your credit card.

Don't jump to conclusions though.

What if said company paid someone to create an ecommerce site for them and were told that it used encryption, when in reality it does not. Yes it's something that should be fixed, but it may not be the actual shop lying, they may think that they do have security on it.

I'm sorry but this or any other excuse is unacceptable.
Whatever happened to accountability and taking responsibility.

If they don't know about what they should have in place to run an on-line business / shop they have two options -

1) Do the research and get it sorted.

2) Don't do it.....simple.
