If you will be wanting HD or will be viewing on an HD set...I seriously recommend getting some aftermarket cable, with high quality sheilding.

The better the signal is when it gets to your digibox, the better it will be when it leaves.

i got sky on vista!
supposed to be an 8meg connection.
got a just under 16meg dload off my newsgroups, so id recomend gettin vista!

pluss sky tv! half price for a year!

Vista has F*ck all to do with your download speed mate.
That is down to your connection and router.

How far from the exchange are you?

I think Sky does upto 8 Meg for £5 a month and upto 16 Meg for £10 a month.

As james pointed out, I know a bit about Audi Visual stuff...I also know a fair bit about Broadband...as that is what I do

this was more a question about exterior cabling than interior. bascially i had SKY installed about 12 months ago and i am thinking about upgrading to SKY+ but at the same time i am about to start a full refurb of my house. so while i have all the floorboards up and the plaster off the walls i was going to run new cables to where i wanted the TV's.

ACE has pointed me to CPC for the cable, but has informed me that i cant cannot the sat dish to a splitter box and then run the TV points from this (like you can with a TV aerial), but apart from that, i think i may be sorted.

the dish to the box needs to be good cable, mainly as i was told by my engineer, is that the lnb needs power to run, and draws it from the sat box.

sky plus needs a dual or quad lnb, and even if you already have one, as i did, sky will still charge for the installation.

my sky is then put into my tv, and the other output goes to a splitter amp for the rest of the house, and works a treat.

A sky box have 2 outputs for the tv well the standard sky box does, not sure bout the sky + without digging out mine from under the tv cabinet.

so depending where you have the sky box fitted you can run 1 extra cable to where ever you want. i did for my kids, had sky + fitted down stairs and had the old box put upstairs in my bedroom with multi room package) and ran another cable into kids room so can watch it on 2 tvs up stairs.

and i only used normal cable.

WTF is a "filter socket"..something do to with coffee percolators?

BOOTI...I was talking about the cable from the Dish to the receiver..get decent Coax.

Also...the mains conditioner I mentioned will help sharpen up video and audio...quite often you will see Halos around stuff..a good place to look is on teh SKY menu screen...a good scart lead will also help, QED IXOS etc.

My Sky goes into a box thing in the roof which sends Normal TV, Sky, Radio and DAB to all the sockets that we need through 1 cable then gets like decoded by a sepecial socket. I will find a link one sec.

a filter socket does the same job as what you put up but, just looks like a regular socket,
when i put together patch panels etc i use filtered sockets to stop any interference that might occur

So...explain to me what a filter socket is and does and why what I posted is bad.

I appreciate that a multiway adapter is bad...this is not a multi way adapter...its is specially designed to CLEAN the power supply of RF INTERFERENCE and to provide a conditioned, smooth mains supply through more than one outlet.

It doesnt have nice lights on like some adapters, because they induce noise into the circuit.

I dont use my one anymore (not for AV, its on my PC) but that is because I use a £600 mains conditioning filter for my AV, which is something most people wont want to shell out for.
