tx for the feeback, screw sizes ego

thank for the quick reply, I wander about the screw sizes that planet use, shoot if you paying like 700quid on a gun and the solonoid part costs like 75 quid , I would argue it a design fault. i know its a competiton gun etc etc and shaving weight off etc etc but 20gr of aluminium to to have slightly thicker walls or something to protect the solonoide would have been a good idea. Oh and like 20gr is 10 paintballs equivilant in weight in your hopper big deal.

I also see that planet say that any hybrid grips dont fit properly and suggest different screws which they also dont supply!!! I wander why...£ issue.

Has anyone ground down the screw length to protect against this?
Is there a "correct" screw kit for fixing this "problem".

i know its a small thing but hay £75 part is not a laughting matter:eek: :(

solenoid screws grind them down, fit new grips on ego

I just pulled the gun appart and had a look see at these solenoid screws and they are fine on my gun.

HOWEVER, If i was going to put a new grip on here are some instructions that might help other people out there. I hve had to grind down some screws for my fishing reel to hold the reel case together in the past. A Painful and tricky experiance which will help out here. Here are some simple tips my tool / part making buddy has helped me with before.

How to fit solenoid screws grind them down, fit new grips on ego.
1) take off screws that hold the rubber ego grip on all 6 of them. remove rubber grip
2) disconect the battery and remove
3) disconnect the motherboard 2 clips
4) remove the main 2 scews that holds the handle trigger to the main body of the gun.
5) Tricky part here slowly separate the two, dont put undue stress on the plastic bits and pieces.
6) get the rubber ego grip new or old replace back onto the handle (without the main marker body attached. If there are any scews going past what should be obvious safety margin of the mail marker body cavity take note how much eg 1mm or 2mm screw length needs to be removed.
7)remove the scews etc and now add square nuts that fit the threads of the screw (maybe this part should have been added first, do go to your diy shop with scews find a match and buy like 10 or so screws that fit. Try and match the thread. The ego scew seem to be alloy so be careful they are not as strong as steel. Grinding the whole nut scew is alot easier than trying with pliers holding just the screw without the nuts, and as human error can well really mess up your screw threads!! The problem you then have is that the screws thread cuts back into the housing thread and wont hold been there done that!!!!!! you end up having to use bigger scews and cutting new thread been there and done that as well. It works but time consuming. but it saved a 100quid big game reel.
8)chuck the screw nut assortment onto a grinder and shave off 1-2 mm not over heating the scew as it gets hot.
9) place the grip back on the handle and test to see if you have removed enough metal so that the solenoid is not getting damaged, a perfect flush finish should be enough to guard against any future damage.

For the perfectionist kings out there polish the scew nut assembly with fine sand paper to remove burrs as a grinder is brut force machine and not gentle.

General note: I havnt any new grips to add to my marker if i did the above would instuctions would work a treat.

Word of warning the above insturctions is what i would do... not saying that anyone else should try it. And if you stuff it up its your fault:eek:

i take it planet sell them?

i take it planet sell them? smaller screws? Also if you bought different screws say steel wont that eat the aluminum in the long term?

Hence why planet use alloy screws?

Where do you get yours?............:D
