Been there done that...had to buy new solanoid!

Im sure if you remove the plastic casing (if its only damaged and not got a big hole in it) then it might still work...any techie would like to step in and let me know :D

Sid
Did you have hybrid grips? (I didn't, and I still managed to do it:(:eek:).

Unfortunately, there was holes on both sides, and they weren't far off from meeting in the middle:rolleyes:.

Luckily, only the back half of the solenoid needed replacing:).

Yes i did mate, not sure if you can just replace the back piece think its one unit (well from Planets website it is) and it will set you back about £80. Ive heard that the Etek solanoids are much better than the Ego ones but you do have to change the dwell to set them up nicely.

I think I must be the only person that can overtighten screws so much that they can go through the standard ego grips then:rolleyes::(:eek::).

Nope, luckily for me, it is in two pieces, I took it to Planet and showed it to them and they replaced the back part for £40.50 for me:).

how tight should the screw be?

hi there i got me a new ego, put new battery in all great, cleaned the insides a few times because of water!!!! getting in. Reading your post I am now scared shi%less of damaging the solinoid. How tight should the screws be. I used the short side of the alen key and did it up tight! like past finger tight so they "hopefully" dont fall out.

So for roughtly on a scale :eek: 1-10 tighness rating.
1 =bolt fallin out
10=using a pair of pliers to help turn the allen key
5=finger tight

What are should the tightness be?:eek:

They only need to be finger tight mate, the grip aint gonna go anywhere with you holding it and you shouldnt have them so you need the worlds strongest man to remove them.

Take the grips off and have a quick look at the solanoid body, you want it unmarked. If its just dented slightly dont worry mines been like that for an age and been fine, if its got a whopping great hole in it and not clicking then hands in pockets time for a new one.
