Standard policy in the UK Masters unlimited are
1. You win the division you move up (except im Div 1)
2. If you come 2nd or 3rd in the division you may also go up
3. You come bottom you go down (except in bottom div)
4. If you come next to bottom you may also go down

Well, then just be proud of the fact that your team won the division

You were in Div 2 first round and yeah, that did seem a little unfair, but Div 4 may have been too far a step down for you and you may well find that you are better suited to Div 3 afterall.
