is 7 man dead.

Just seeing what the view is from every one.

I have heard that the MS are locking another div next year and making that in to cpl format plus most teams i know like playing xball or like 5 man xball lite.......

I wasn't around to watch the demise of 10 man so i don't know what the warning signs are.

discuss.

I can't say much for the rest of Europe, but in the UK its been the same thing going on for the last 10 years, there's getting less and less players (so of course Teams). Back in 97 (as well as me winning the World cup with Aftershock :D ) there was the NPPS which had 12 pro 10 man teams and about 28 AM 10 Man teams!!!!!!!! Then over the years its just gone down and down.
OK so now we have 3 Pro Teams..(With about 8 players per squad) and say 6 AM teams which are going to play all the milleniums, and there's not many of thoses AM teams which you could say that all there players are young and very good, like our team, East coast Irritant, we have 10 players, only 7 can do all the Milleniums and out of those 7 we have me, 42 Mark 41 and Nick who i think is over 35!! I used to be a good player years ago but seriously i am going down hill fast when i play against the other European teams its just a fact of life but we have been tryiny for the last 3 months to get younger players to play for us but so have a lot of the other teams out there!!! there just isn't the player base like there used to be, and i hate to think what its going to be like in another 10 years.
So may be the main reason why its going the 5 man route is because the lack of players just like it was when it went from 15 man to 10 man then 10 man to 7 man and now 7 man to 5 man!!!!!!!!

I've played in teams "not paintball related" that find it difficult to raise the amount of players to make the teams. So a reduction to 5 man from 7 will make it easier to get teams together, and provide more teams to play each tournament series.

Without generaliseing too much, i think Twizz, the kinda players you want (say, 14-19) to play fast aggressive ball just havent got the financial backing to play all the milleniums really.

Then when you get a bit later in life, say 19-25, a lot of these people could be good ballers but have commitments elsewhere.

Sure, you get the rare case (lets see people like the Pebbles and Al Frances of this world) who are early 20's, turning pro having earnt it and playing at the highest level they can right now (and before people point out Disruption is a SPL team, I KNOW) but for the most part tis demographic are looking at going to uni, setting up home and are at that age where girls become women and girlfriends become living partners. stuff like that. these things all take a toll on ones projection of playing ball 24/7...

heh, im not saying i could ever be or want to be a pro baller, but im 23 now, spent a lot of time out of the game doing uni - now Ive got a job, mortgage, woman on my arm makes it harder to focus purely on "playing all the millenniums".

thats just me though.
the demise of 7 man and the lack of ability to commit to a whole season of oeverseas play is probably part of the reason why I'm focussing on xball now, starting with the PA this season. I will probably do campaign but as for the others im not sure anymore.

personally i think xballs the way forward, i have never had as much fun playing supair as when i play xball (fight club being the highlight) and as soon as this style gets adopted across the board the better in my opinion.

even 5 man formats that arent "match style" like xball are just a bit dull now i think. of course, a big part of that is due to the events themselves and the quality of the fields etc.

hope that made some sense...

only problem i see with that tom is that for most xball teams you need a squad of at least 7 (CPL/SPL) then of course its plus coaches pit crew. for the pa the minumum is a 10 man (active players) squad up to 15.

unless you arent talking solely about xball, in which case your point holds true of course.

so what does this mean for our sport?if this is a taste of things to come will it be 3man in 5 years due to lack of players?or are the players there and the only reason teams are finding it hard to fill the squad is because there are so many people starting teams and lots of teams already that the players are spread to thinly?

spot on from where im standing, last year i could get away with balling every weekend, out of the country once a month etc. i wish i could still do it but the reasons above get in the way. still ive decided ive got the bug and cant let paintball go totally, gonna get back in the swing of things training hard physically and gettin in as much ball as possible, girlfriend and finances allowing of course
