Burst Discs - what and why?

Small discs designed to "blow out" when a certain pressure is reached,
They blow out before the bottle is overfilled to stop anything dangerous from happening (the bottle exploding)
When they blow it means there was too much pressure in your bottle or it has been filled WAY too fast, thus saving your life in some cases
Someone will have to correct me on this as im just trying to be helpful but i think some of the info may be wrong

i'm confused now because i thought the purpose of a reg is to stop it filling over the limit thus making it regulated and regulating the output prssure. so why have burst disks if let's say you have a 3000psi bottle when it can't fill to over 3000psi there fore the burst disks won't well burst **** i just humiliated myself didn't iSmall discs designed to "blow out" when a certain pressure is reached,

The 7500psi disc is to protect the bottle from overfilling.
The 1800psi disc is to protect the marker from the reg going over pressure.
Often these discs wear out and fail for no reason, fast filling is often quoted as the cause, and it's usually the 1800psi disc that fails.

The reg is there to regulate the high pressure in the bottle to a lower controlled pressure. The 3000psi bottle will have a 5000psi burst disc to protect it from overfilling.i'm confused now because i thought the purpose of a reg is to stop it filling over the limit thus making it regulated and regulating the output prssure. so why have burst disks if let's say you have a 3000psi bottle when it can't fill to over 3000psi there fore the burst disks won't well burst **** i just humiliated myself didn't i
Remember these discs are not accurate to "x" psi, they fail at various pressures around there designed burst pressure.
burst disks burst to prevent anything else exploding. ill explain form my bottle. its rated to 4500PSI. it has a 7500 PSI (4500 on a 3K?) to protect the bottle. not that this should have a need to burst, but hopefully if something went drastically wrong it wouldnt blow the bottle. the 1.8K (not on all bottles) is to protect gun/remote line if reg fails and allows the full pressure behind it (upto 4500PSI). CO2 bottles are normally 3K.
reaperboy_83, the reg is to regulate the higher pressure of the bottle to the lower pressure the gun needs to operate. i.e around 800PSI. the fill station normally has a reg in (unless its only to 3K - but dont hold me to this) but if you fill from dive tanks, the reg wont do much good.
