I HATE IONS! and mild concussion...

Well dudes, its Saturday night, I'm mildly concussed from a rather nasty stream of hits to the side of the head at training and one of my players ion smegged up mega style.

Okay so here’s how the story goes... we couldn’t get it to power up at the start of the day, at first I thought the ridiculous gel button was playing up worse than usual, checked and replaced the battery but still nothing. So we attempted to open her up and sure enough the micro switch was sitting quite comfortably at the bottom of the frame. puzzled as to how we were gonna get her going we eventually decided to 'hotwire' the board by basically plonking the microswitch where its supposed to go and pressing the button. Once she was on and going we took the switch away and put the frame back together, she rolled okay for a small amount of time before she decided to call it quits. So my friend asks if I can take the marker away with me to repair (after all it’s to solder points, end of).

Well to cut a long (LONG) story short the micro switch soldered on lovely, working like a charm, the board slotted in neatly and everything went fine... that is until I went to test it, three shots in and it dies. I open her up and what im faced with is a mess. Simple as. The micro switch is gone... again now joined with the battery... and the wires attaching the battery.
Now before you say it yuuuup I checked and maintained a close watch over the wires as I slotted the board back into place which leaves me to offer only one other explanation... Ions suck. They suck so bad. They suck MORE than Terminator 3. And this my friends leaves us with a simple moral to my story;
please please... when that little voice in your mind says 'open up the ion, its only a simple repair' or when you hear 'go onnnn, you can surely install a new board cant you?', reply with that simple something resembling 'duck off', save the £20 an hour Smartparts charge and go to the pub.

Dont suppose anyone could help us fix this thing could they? Pleaseeeeee?
Thanks. :D

It takes a considerable force from the user to break a microswitch off the board, unless you are saying that the gun itself managed to muster this force inside the gripframe and break the switch. ;)

I have a spare stock Ion board here that you can have. All Its missing an on button and a solenoid.
You could take the solenoid and on button off your broken board and put them on this one. Or I could do it for you for the price of a beer.

No dude you misunderstood (or more to the point I never cared to go into detail on the extent of the mess). There is no on/off. It fell apart. Where I soldered it is still in tip top, on the board and as solid as an 8 year old Tippmann. But the rest of the switch actually fell apart. The cap of the switch came away, the button and a similar metal piece. Now I aint saying it was done mysteriously but I will say I'm careful enough to know when I'm putting too much force on a board, and trust me it wasn’t enough to smeg it up. My explanation is the switches durability after all the excitement.

Thanks for the offer dude but with no on/off it’s a bit pointless. Thank you all the same though.

Yet another Ion flaming thread. It's like having a pop at Jade. It's just easy and you'll think no-one will mind. And I'm sure Ion's are the ONLY markers in the world that have problems .

The only problems I've had with my Ion are ones caused by myself when I have ****ed up an up's install or a routine maintenance session. Either way, once diagnosed, easily fixed.

Good luck fixing yours though. :D

Ah, sorry I thought you meant microswitch.
That dumb on button is a peice of crap, sadly they break quite often.

This might help you fix the problem. Ignore the bit about the LEDs just follow what he says about attaching a membrane pad.

John, youre a star. Simple as that. Cheers dude. :D

Marcus, yeaaah man yet another thread  , to be fair I have always defended them to the bitter end but the more I've experienced players around me smegging them up the more contempt I feel for the general pain in the neck they can be (being the guy on the team everyone brings broken gats too). Dont get me wrong though I still have some respect for them deep down... deep deep down. :D
