well is there really any point in becoming a proffessional in a sport if everyone hates you? :mad:

rolleyes:

i'd say the point is the person loves the chosen sport and being a true professional in that sport means you also do it for the money. look at football, there are plenty of players hated all up and down the country but they are good at it, they enjoy it, and they also get a fair old wage out of doing it too:)

lol that was my own opinion thanks, and there are many hated professional athletes who are still the worlds best, it is all opinion but the question if what does it meant to be a professional and it is to get paid for what you do and earn a salary like a job

So, even though RL may be the only TRUE professional paintball team, as the dictionary defines it.
Although how do you know when you are playing at a "professional" level as it is used on the paintball world.

yeah that's right i reckon sammurphy, hating an athlete doesn't mean you don't respect their ability or success.
not sure if there's many technically true pro-ballers out there but maybe the money's not available, but there's deffo some amazing players out there. i reckon it's best to call em pro's whatever the argument as it's good to have someone to look up to and for the kids to aspire to be, i'm sure once people realise how great this sport is it'll be up there with the best of em:D

To some there is - since some of that hate might have to do with the fact that you are better than those exact same "haters"..... ;)

To me being a pro can mean one of two things (in any given sport!), I think it´s actually quite simple:

Either you make a living out of playing - OR you play at the highest possible level!

i think it goes like it;

Novice/Newbie ( Beginner, just getting into the sport )
Amateur ( First step in the sport and starting to train more )
Intermediate ( Play major tournaments )
Semi-Pro ( Play major tournaments in higher leagues )
Elite ( Play in the top leagues )
Pro ( Paid to play )
