So John C, from what you're saying QEVs are more hassle than they are worth, and would you say that other upgrades (such as Lucky Stages 1-3) would be more beneficial?

Sorry to threadjack, but I've just aquired an Ion as a backup, and want to do a little work to it. I don't need more then 15 BPS (NSPL Cap), but need 8-9 pots from a 68/4500 fill, so efficiency (and ease on paint) would be my overall goal.

Cheers

Hmm... my detents upon inspection seem ok, but I'll change them just in case...

up the Dwell chap you need the gun to run smoth also look at the Fire bolt for damade and sharpnes, not the best bolt on paint has to be said.

orange bolt is softed on brital paint and get a heated bag for the paint too ok

In my starter post I mentioned that poor paint is bad and that quality paint is good, and I also mentioned that the QEV causing faster bolt action is most likely the problem, but need to bounce it off you chaps to see if I am right?

Now I have to agree with John C that the speed of the firing bolt is a constant regardless of dwell, as long as you have the dwell high enough to ensure no drop off.

BTW. Have changed my SFT o-ring, have put in killa detents, and have just fitted a lucky stage 3. Using the method of adjusting the dwell managed it to cycle on ramping at 15pbs with the dwell set at 8 beeps from the bottom. Have adjusted it to 14 beeps to be sure. ROF set at 50. I can confirm my Ion runs smooth.

I'm trying to clear my way through a lot of the myths and what my mate said kindof stuff, and tryiing to home in on hard facts... so bottom line. Is the faster action of the firing bolt the reason I am breaking 'cheaper' paint in the barrel, whereas my stock ion would shoot anything?

From what I have seen so far it would seem so but has anyone else got any further comment?

I would still bump that Dwell up a touch more...especially given th eweather...i had some running at 16 and they gave a few problems in the cold, so uped it to 20-25...

Have you tried it with a big bore barrel on?

Dwell. Well it seemed to be ok on 8 from bottom, and I put it up another 6 clicks for comfort. If it gives me problems on Sat, will up to about 20 or 25. Thanks Skeet.

Bigbore barrel. I guess the biggest bore barrel I have is the Ion stock. This hasn't made any difference to breaks in the barrel. How much bigger can you get?
