I am looking to get a lucky stage 2 and would also like to purchase an L7 bolt

What I'm not sure about is if these two items are compatable?

Can anyone out there tell me if the've combined these two items successfully.

Thanks
James

there shouldnt be a problem, these parts are deisnged to be used with most other aftermarket products, the difference in this case is the stage 2 is milled more, so is lighter and so will give more shots per tank. The bolt works in 99% of cases, the only instance is if you have a stage 5.1, in which case there are issues, but as you're not, the combo should work perfect.

once I get my ion (tomorrow) I'm thinking of the lucky 1,2,3 combo and a qev

any recommendations on the better qev?

SP360 or lucky?

minimal knowledge reqd for install is the key here guys

p.s. sorry for a sly thread-jacking but its on the same lines.....:)

well, you could scrap the 1,2,3 idea, buy a lucky stage 5, and get coloured eyes, same effciency bolt and a bolt out the back gun for £100, well, £90 from the US site, you have to buy an AC threaded barrel, but second hand off here, should be able to pick one up cheap, not to mention the fact that you can flog the whole top part of you gun.

I have bought an ION recently and have been reading alot of these threads about upgrades, so far I have got a CP rake trigger a drop forward and asa all by CP, however these QEV's and firing bolts are getting me slightly confused, for the start not figured out what a QEV means and does, I can understand what the firing bolt does. However what are the best combo's as I'm not the most technical when it comes to paintball markers, and kinda would like it to work without too much arseing about. There is also the barrel issue, there are sooo many lengths and bore sizes may I also ask what the best barrel would be. In the future I am looking at getting a blackheart board, maybe when i go to the states at easter.

Thanks

On the Ion you make the the bolt go forward by letting air out from in front of the bolt.
A QEV allows that air to vent quicker, resulting in a faster forward moving bolt.

On some of the more primitive designs of bolt (ie the stock bolt, firebolt etc) a QEV is recommended to keep the cycle time down because those bolts vent air throughout the firing cycle.

In summary, putting a QEV on your ion allows the bolt to go forward faster, a faster forward moving bolt will give you a better rate if fire, it will also make your gun tougher on paint and the orings on your bolt will not last as long.

Personally I do not recommend putting a QEV on the Ion, if you have a stage 1 bolt your efficiency should be pretty good without one.

i think that is funny how people buy a new bolt, QEV, new reg, different fire chamber etc. All things that affect the pressure and effciency, but they dont actually use them, like they will now lower the dwell or lower the pressure. They just think because they have the upgrade, that it instantly is at its best. I have to admint, so many forums how to fix and upgrade your gun, but not many tell you what to do once you have them.

Surely low pressure and low dwell arent the end results though? They are just numbers after all. The final goal of any upgrade part has to be something that actually translates into a tangible improvement on the field.

So many 'upgrades' are designed purely to alter or allow you to alter the numbers and then go no further, or to provide a small improvement in one area at huge expense in another.

Some of the upgrades you mentioned do make a positive difference on the field. But for my purpose a QEV on an Ion does not.

Efficiency is certainly better than the stock setup, but you are now venting the nice soft cushion of air in front of the bolt very quickly, allowing it to slam forward into the ball and/or bumper oring (esp when dry firing). Nothing else about how the gun works has changed, the only reason you can run a lower dwell with a QEV because the bolt moves faster, with more force...
My purpose for the marker is tourney use, where I fill up my air after every game and I want to shoot the most brittle paint I can, so to me the QEV has more drawbacks than benefits.
